When the Colts decided to shake things up at QB, you just knew the internet was going to explode. Anthony Richardson’s season? It had everything—injuries, inconsistency, and yeah, that wild moment where he tapped out mid-game because he was “out of breath.” Even Pat McAfee couldn’t let that one slide. He didn’t wait for a moment, took to social media, and straight up called out the then second-year QB.
“I had never seen an NFL QB tap out while still being healthy until watching Anthony Richardson,” he wrote in his ‘X’ post. “The QB is your franchise. The message it sends is loud and influential.” Fast forward to now and it looks like McAfee is finally getting good news when it comes to the Colts’ QB drama. The reason?
Well, free agency is here, and the Colts are looking for a veteran signal-caller. And guess what? The team just signed a veteran QB for their 2025 campaign. On Tuesday, the NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported that the Colts are signing the former Giants‘ QB, Daniel Jones, on a one-year deal worth $14M. The contract terms also include $13.15M fully guaranteed. Guess who’s the happiest guy right about now?

Of course, it’s Pat McAfee. Right after Jones signing a deal with the Colts hit the headlines, McAfee took to his official ‘X’ handle and straight up admitted his excitement. “HOLY SH-T. WE GOT OUR GUY,” he wrote in his post. Now, let’s be real—McAfee spent his entire NFL career with the Colts for eight long years. Besides, he wasn’t happy at all with Richardson in the 2024 season.
Remember that week 8 game against the Houston Texans? Yeah, y’all know what I’m talking about. Richardson voluntarily took himself out for one play in the third quarter. The reason? Well, the QB needed a breather. McAfee didn’t hold back after the game and called out the QB. And that’s not all.
After tapping out of the game, the Colts benched Richardson the following week, and the QB didn’t start for two-consecutive games. Well, that was all for McAfee. He first questioned the whole organization and then apologized to the young QB. “Get ‘em all and get the f**k out. Pay off all their contracts, too. Congrats, you robbed us. You stole from us. This group got us the number four overall pick, this group has been through so many different people. This group has had to deal with so many different quarterbacks, too,” he said,
McAfee further added, “So this group probably feels a bit like, ‘This is our NFL experience?’ It’s like, yeah, somebody still needs to tell them that you still get to be in the NFL. You don’t have to be in the NFL. So AR, I apologize for being so loud about you tapping out… but now I’m starting to think like, ‘Has anybody told AR how he’s supposed to be’?” Well, looks like no one did.
Because it’s obvious, Richardon didn’t have the kind of season where he caught everyone’s attention for some good reasons. The guy started 11 games, led the Colts with 6-5 record and amassed just 1,814 yards for 8 TDs and those 12 interceptions. So yeah, when the Colts announced that they’re signing Daniel Jones, no wonder Pat McAfee was pretty excited.
What’s your perspective on:
Can Daniel Jones be the savior the Colts desperately need, or is this another false hope?

Is Daniel Jones an answer to the Colts’ QB issues?
Here’s the deal: Daniel Jones coming to Indianapolis means that he’ll have to compete with Anthony Richardson for the QB1 role in 2025. As per his contract terms, Jones will stack up $14M contract in 2025. However, the contract could be worth over $17M if the 27-year-old QB managed to reach the performance targets in the 2025 season.

The Giants drafted Jones with No. 6 overall pick back in the 2019 NFL draft. The guy started every game but one in his five seasons with the Giants and had a track record of 24-44-1 with one playoff win. Fast forward to the 2024 season, the QB left New York and joined the Minnesota Vikings‘ practice squad in late November 2024.

The catch? Well, the guy didn’t get an opportunity to play for the Vikings, considering Sam Darnold was having the best run of his career with the team. Now that’s where things get pretty messy for Jones. You see, after the 2024 season wrap-up, Darnold is expected to leave the Vikings, there’s no doubt about that. However, with J.J. McCarthy returning to the active roster, and yet to make his pro-football debut, there was no chance Jones would have got an opportunity to start for the Vikings. The result?

Jones is now with the Colts. That said, it’s likely that the Indianapolis team will name him the starting QB considering the poor performance of Richardson in the last couple of seasons. And let’s be real—Jones is coming to Indianapolis with an impressive resume under his name.
The guy has 14,582 passing yards, 70 touchdown passes and 47 interceptions in 70 career games (69 starts). The way things are shaping, it’s safe to say, Daniel Jones might be the answer to the Colts’ QB issues.
