Is Josh Allen truly better off without Stefon Diggs, or is this just wishful thinking?

Remember last year when the Bills faced locker room chaos as Stefon Diggs expressed his frustration for getting just a few passes? He even called himself a great “competitor” and believed, “I know my team still needs me.” However, later a trade sent Diggs to the Houston Texans, and many speculated that his exit would bring pressure on Josh Allen. But the story seems different now!

The Buffalo Bills are 3-0 in the 2024 NFL season so far, which proves Allen isn’t under any pressure. Now Josh Allen’s team is going to face off against the reigning MVP quarterback, Lamar Jackson, and his Ravens on Sunday. Hence, it’s a highly-anticipated game, and it remains to be seen who wins this time. But if you ask about his thoughts on both the quarterbacks, NBA legend Paul Pierce would pick Allen over Jackson.

Is Josh Allen the next MVP?

In a recent episode of Speak on September 27, Paul Pierce joined the show hosts Joy Taylor and Keyshawn Johnson to discuss who they trust more: Josh Allen or Lamar Jackson? Giving his point of view, the NBA legend highlighted that many people expected the Bills to struggle, especially without a big-name receiver like Stefon Diggs. Despite those expectations, Allen has been making the best of what he has.

Pierce said, citing Diggs’ egoistic 2023 statements, “He’s [Allen] making the most of what he got. No egos on the team, he’s leading them to the three and 0. He ain’t got nobody complaining about no touchdowns or touches right now. I gotta go with my man, Josh…he’s playing free and as of today, he’s the MVP as of today” over Lamar Jackson.

Although Johnson still picked Jackson as the MVP and predicted the Ravens’ win in the Week 4 game, Pierce stayed affirmed on his thoughts. He believes that this time Josh Allen will win over Jackson and his Purple Team. Well not only, Pierce, in fact, a former WR too believes that even without Diggs, Allen is thriving in the league.

Josh Allen is free from Stefon Diggs’ pressure?

What’s your perspective on:

Is Josh Allen truly better off without Stefon Diggs, or is this just wishful thinking?

Have an interesting take?

Although Stefon Diggs was selected to play his fourth Pro Bowl, he wasn’t happy with his “107 catches for 1,183 yards and scored 8 touchdowns in 17 games in 2023.” Hence, in December, he expressed his frustration by saying, “It’s frustrating. I gotta do a lot of things to get open, and then a lot of things gotta go right to get the ball, so for me when it doesn’t happen, of course, I’m frustrated…..I like to play at a high level and I always want it to happen. And even if it doesn’t when it doesn’t materialize, I definitely get a little discouraged at a moment.” This created chaos in the locker room, resulting in pressure for Josh Allen to pass him multiple times.

But as Diggs has exited the team, former NFL WR, Julian Edelman, believes Allen is free from pressure. In a recent appearance on FSI’s “The Herd,” Edelman noted, “Sometimes quarterbacks get so comfortable with the guy, or if they have a big-name receiver, that there’s a weight on them to get them the” football. “That’s what [Josh] Allen had with [Stefon] Diggs for sure.” But now, according to the 38-year-old, the Bills’ balanced offense has helped the quarterback. Julian Edelman is talking about how the Buffalo Bills‘ balanced offense has helped Josh Allen. With the running game and multiple receivers stepping up, Allen is able to throw to whoever is open instead of feeling pressured to target just one player.

Hence, Edelman believes Allen is playing more freely and enjoying the game because of this balance, and the result is in front of all.
