Beaten and battered, the 2024 season saw the sport go into unprecedented territories. Where do we start — the “KC Cheats” rebrand or the “KC fatigue” with their families and “Swift” romance all working overtime or reactions to the removal of the prototypal phrase “END RACISM.” The factions of protesters had their own reasons but it made little to no difference since they got lost in the shuffle! Jalen Hurts’ Eagles finally had their revenge on Patrick Mahomes’ Chiefs on Feb 9 at the Super Bowl LIX. But there was another big winner that night.

FOX Sports. 127.7 million viewers. A good sum of 4 million more viewers compared to last year’s 123.7 million. And just like that, the Super Bowl LIX became the most-watched sports event in America. While Fox’s coverage was spot-on, it didn’t happen by chance. Compared to 35-40 cameras for a normal NFL game, Fox installed a total of 147 cameras on the ground for this year’s Super Bowl. “When you’re at the Super Bowl,” said Michael Davies, FOX Sports’ executive VP of field and technical operations, “it’s vital that there are no angles missed.” In fact, their flawless coverage even earned praise from a senior commentator at a rival network

Al Michaels is “leaning very heavily” to come back in 2025. While clearing all the retirement rumors, the 80-year-old expressed that he was still healthy enough to host the game presentation. And that he loves being around work and his people. After all, he remains one of the NFL’s signature voices for Prime Video’s Thursday Night Football. But that’s not the only thing that has kept him buzzing for the past three years. This past season, Michaels was stunned to see his broadcasting rival and dear friend Charissa Thompson’s FOX topping up the Super Bowl stage in New Orleans.

This year, FOX served as the exclusive US broadcaster of Super Bowl LIX. And the way they did surprised the NFL community, especially Al Michaels. So, what’s next? The Prime Video’s caller quickly sent a message to Charissa Thompson, who later shared the full story with her audience in her Calm Down podcast.

During an episode this week, Charissa Thompson and her friend Erin Andrews came up with “Episode 305: SUPER BOWL LIX REACTION!” In this discussion, the FOX Sports star Thompson revealed, “Al Michaels called me yesterday, my sweet Al Michaels, and just said, what an incredible job Fox does with these big events.”

She admitted that $40 million rich Al Michaels was very amazed to see FOX covering such big events smoothly and with grace. Even Charissa Thompson admitted that FOX does things “like no one can. I say this respectfully and again maybe biased, whatever, they just do it.” Not only that! Her praise for the broadcasting channel didn’t end there.

What’s your perspective on:

Did FOX's Super Bowl coverage set a new standard for sports broadcasting? What impressed you the most?

Have an interesting take?

While speaking to Erin Andrews, Charissa Thompson recalled the FOX SB phase,Well, it all worked out, and all the precautions were important because you were in front of one hundred and twenty six million people. Congratulations to FOX……that’s awesome. It is, I have to say. And not just because they you know, we work for them. Fox does an un freakin believable” job.

Charissa Thompson was in awe of the massive effort that goes into making the Super Bowl happen. Standing outside the Superdome, she was blown away by the scene, the energy, the planning, and the sheer scale of it all.

The FOX Sports host also gave credit to the people behind the scenes – from security teams to organizers, who work tirelessly to pull off such a huge event. And when it came to the broadcasting channel’s coverage, Charissa Thompson didn’t just praise it because she works there. Even as a viewer, she said she’d be impressed, calling it a “kick-a–s production.” Indeed, FOX’s coverage for this big event, wherein both Andrews and Thompson hosted, saw a major leap in viewership as well as revenue generation.

Erin Andrews & Charissa Thompson’s FOX scores big!

FOX Corporation received the opportunity this year to serve as the exclusive broadcaster of the Super Bowl LIX. And they made a massive profit from this! The Corp broadcasted the game on FOX’s main channel, Fox Deportes, and its streaming platform, Tubi. And you know what? They raked in over $800 million in ad revenue. Wow, that’s incredible!

Apart from it, the viewership also shattered records, with more than 126 million people watching as the Eagles dominated the Chiefs. Well, we already knew that the Super Bowl LVII rematch will be exciting, special and watch-worthy. And the advertisers knew the same. They knew that the audience would be huge. Hence, they made a move.

The advertisers pushed ad prices to record highs. For instance, some 30-second spots sold for $8 million, with the average cost at $7.5 million. So, compared to CBS’s $6.5 million per spot in 2024, FOX’s pricing soared this time. In addition, the demand was so high that ad slots sold out well before game day. Besides all these, do you know what peaked in the battle? The viewership, which hit 135.7 million, surpassing the 2024 Super Bowl’s 123.4 million viewers.
