Josh Allen finally got his hands on the MVP trophy. The Bills QB edged out Lamar Jackson in his first-ever MVP win. The Bills Mafia is over the top of the world. This win came as a fresh breeze after the heartbreaking conference championship loss. But this is the NFL, and nobody here walks away with a win without people giving their opinions. So naturally, people had plenty to say about Allen’s MVP moment. And the folks at Fox Sports didn’t hold back either.

Enter the First Things First crew –Nick Wright, Chris Broussard, and Kevin Wildes. The Fox Sports trio broke down the much-anticipated Super Bowl matchup in their latest episode. But that wasn’t all, they also weighed in on Josh Allen finally winning MVP this season. Nick Wright thinks this MVP win is only going to crank up the pressure on Allen next season. The same kind Lamar Jackson would’ve faced if he’d won his third. And that pressure? Winning a Lombardi. Because at some point, people are going to ask, ‘How can a two- or three-time MVP not have a Super Bowl ring?’

I think, man, hearing all regular season next year three-time MVP back-to-back, you know, back-to-back MVP without making a Super Bowl, all of that. I do feel like now that kind of shifts to Josh a little. Like that, you know what I mean? Now Josh is the reigning MVP. Neither, you know, Josh also hasn’t been to a Super Bowl.”

Speaking of the Super Bowl, the biggest roadblocks in Josh Allen’s path are Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs. Although, Buffalo was the only team to beat Mahomes and his squad in the regular season. (If we don’t count that final game of the regular season against the Broncos where Carson Wentz led the KC). But Allen still hasn’t cracked the code in the playoffs. The new MVP is the only QB to lose in the postseason four times to the same team.

And that’s the reason Chris Broussard thinks Lamar Jackson might be relieved he didn’t take home the MVP this year.

Josh Allen vs Lamar Jackson

Josh Allen might have snagged the MVP, but not everyone’s celebrating. For many, this win came as a surprise, especially since Lamar Jackson seemed like the favorite. Former player Jonathan Ogden even called it a ‘sympathy’ win. “I get it, because (Josh) is a great quarterback. He hadn’t won one. Lamar had two. And they’re like, ‘Let’s just give him one.’ But that’s the wrong reason.” Josh Allen edged out Lamar Jackson by just 21 points, grabbing 27 first-place votes to Jackson’s 23.

Chris Broussard thinks Lamar missing out on the MVP might have had a lot to do with his Super Bowl record—or lack of one. “It wasn’t one of those years with a bunch of great MVP candidates, but Josh was fantastic and deserved it. I think Lamar should have gotten it, but I get how voters think… I know history plays a role. Lamar’s won two, and he’s the only player with multiple MVPs but no championship—not even a Super Bowl appearance. That kind of thing can work against you.” The debate is certainly on.

Lamar Jackson put up 4,172 yards and 41 touchdowns—numbers that earned him the most All-Pro first-team QB votes (30 to Allen’s 18).On the other hand, Allen finished with 3,731 yards and 28 touchdowns. That’s why his MVP win caught so many people off guard. He took home the trophy despite trailing Jackson in first-team votes.

But at the end of the day, Allen’s the one holding the award. And as the Fox crew pointed out, this win is only going to crank up the pressure next season. Can Josh live up to the MVP hype? We’ve got months to find out.
