Just last month, Daniel Jones, the heir-apparent to Eli Manning, was captured practicing at Duke, his former home. That’s something two-time Super Bowl Champion Manning used to do with his receivers while he was still a Giants QB. At that time, it looked like Jones was trying to replicate the success Manning brought to the G-Men. However, his 6-year tenure as a starter for the Big Blues ended in an ugly divorce last season, far away from what Jones envisioned him to be. Now, with Russell Wilson in New York, he probably wasn’t too keen on continuing a Giants ritual. He may have gone to an old habitat to practice, but it isn’t NC State, Wisconsin, or Duke. It’s a football program that Russ once dominated in his campus life.

On Thursday, Wilson was captured sharing a bunch of snaps from his visit to Georgia Tech. In his first Instagram story, Wilson wrote, “Grateful!” tagging @georgiatechfb. He even zoomed into the Bobby Dodd Stadium, giving us a 360° small tour of the Yellow Jackets’ home. On his next story, Wilson shared Georgia Tech’s logo on their gym captioning, “Work Day. Everyday.” Seeing all the equipment in the gym, Wilson probably had a good workout before hopping on the gridiron.

In his final story update from Georgia, Wilson also showed off the Yellow Jackets’ practice field. Russ even captioned the post writing, “Good Work Day!” Seems like the 36-year-old had a visit to remember as he prepares to start for the Giants next season. “I expect to be the starter and to be able to come here and rock and roll every day,” Wilson said after signing with the Giants. Getting a one-year contract worth $21M with $10.5M in guarantees, Wilson doesn’t envision himself as a backup in the Big Apple.

Joining a QB room that already has veterans like Jameis Winston and Tommy DeVito, Wilson isn’t even scared if the Giants bring another QB. When asked about his thoughts on the Giants possibly drafting a young signal-caller, Wilson was like, “The great part about professional sports is constant change, constant movement. If we draft a quarterback. We’ll make sure he does everything he can to be ready to go and be prepared with his mentality.”

While it remains to be seen whom the Giants will draft at No.3, Wilson surely had some memorable flashbacks on Thursday. His visit to Georgia Tech marks the 14th anniversary of him humiliating the program.

Russell Wilson takes a trip down his NC State memory lane

Standing at 5-foot-11, people always doubted Russell Wilson’s capabilities to quarterback a team. Like he was indeed small, considering the average 6-foot heights of QBs. However, those shortcomings only pushed Wilson to work harder from his early college days. He spent 4 years with the Wolfpacks, with his best season coming in 2010. One of the games where Russ truly shined was against Georgia Tech. He passes for a career-high 368 yards and 3 TDs as NC State produced a romp over winning 45-28. Russ completed 28 of his 41 passes while throwing 3 TDs. That game was just a teaser of the sensational year Wilson went on to have with the Wolfpacks.

Wilson later led them to a Champs Sports Bowl victory against the Big East Conference’s West Virginia 23-7. He even led ACC in passing yards per game (274.1) while earning a second-team All-ACC honor. Russ also finished as a runner-up for ACC Football Player of the Year. Well, after his NC State tenure came to an end. Wilson played a year in Wisconsin before getting picked by the Seahawks in 2012.

Within his sophomore year, Wilson earned his first and only Super Bowl in the very stadium he would be calling home for at least one year. So, it remains to be seen how well Wilson performs in MetLife, where he once witnessed his Super Bowl dream come true.

What’s your perspective on:

Can Russell Wilson replicate his college magic with the Giants, or is he past his prime?
