All the chatter can rest for a while now! Brandon Aiyuk’s contract situation with the San Francisco 49ers started broiling up since the market for wide receivers exploded, especially after Justin Jefferson’s new deal. As per reports, the 26-year-old Niners WR became disenchanted with his team for their lack of urgency towards his long-term deal.
As a result, Aiyuk missed the 49ers’ off-season program and did not attend the mandatory minicamp, which made the situation even more complex and crucial. But now, according to NFL insider Tom Pelissero, everything seems fine between the All-Pro and the Super Bowl runner-up, as he suggests the Niners see Aiyuk’s trade as the last option.

In a recent episode of The Rich Eisen Show, on June 27th, Thursday, Tom Pelissero joined the show to discuss the present situation of the 49ers and Brandon Aiyuk. He informed, “Brandon Aiyuk asked the 49ers for a meeting which took place I believe it was on Monday….They had a good meeting. Aiyuk has not requested a trade, he never did.” The NFL insider highlighted that during the offseason, Aiyuk has been vocal and public about his concerns. He staged a FaceTime call with Jayden Daniels and said, “the 49ers don’t want me back”, as well as posted cryptic messages on social media.
According to him, Aiyuk has not requested a trade, and the 49ers have not changed their stance on keeping him. They listened to trade offers before the draft but only for a high price, such as a first-round pick. And now, after the draft, the 49ers have started focusing on having Aiyuk as part of the team. However, Pelissero doubted that the situation could change if a team offered Aiyuk the contract he wanted and significant compensation to the 49ers. But simultaneously, Aiyuk has not indicated that he wants to leave, and the Niners also do not want to trade him.
So, in short, it’s a negotiation about money and terms. If no agreement is reached with the 49ers, Aiyuk may decide to play out his final year and can be franchise-tagged in 2025. Hence, it remains to be seen what’s in store for him and, if kept, how much he will receive.
Brandon Aiyuk expects how much from his extension?
In the same episode of the Rich Eisen Show, host Eisen asked Tom Pelissero about the potential value of Brandon Aiyuk’s new contract, if there was a new contract. While the exact value remains uncertain, Pelissero speculated that at least it would not reach the level of Justin Jefferson’s contract. However, it could be around $30 million a year, similar to other top wide receivers.

Aiyuk has impressive stats, including two 1,000-yard seasons, and twenty-five touchdowns in four years. Therefore, he wants a contract that reflects his performance. Currently, Aiyuk is set to make $14.1 million as per his final rookie year contract, with a drawback, which is, he would also have to pay a fine for not attending the mandatory camp this offseason.
Despite the ongoing negotiations, Kyle Shanahan and his team have publicly stated they do not want to trade Aiyuk. Therefore, according to Pelissero, a contract extension could be finalized after July 4th. This suggests that the discussion is moving in a positive direction.
