The Kansas City Chiefs have faced huge outbursts from the fanbase for their lackluster performances late in the season. The defending champions have gone slightly off-track with 5 losses, and not even QB Patrick Mahomes has avoided the heat from the fans. But are the fans demanding too much from the team at this point?
That’s what former Chiefs’ safety, Jon McGraw, has insisted. He advised the fans to respect how the team was performing and suggested they were lacking reality with their demands sometimes. McGraw even called the fans ‘spoiled’. But can the team keep McGraw’s faith in them by defending their title?

Jon McGraw blasts the fans: calls them ‘spoiled’
Talking to KC Sports Network’s Shawn Barber, McGraw suggested that the fans were demanding too much from the team. “We got a little spoiled. We just start to expect them to win the AFC West every year. It is hard to win football games in the NFL“, the safety made clear that supporting a team and playing in the league were two entirely different things.

“Then also respect what Clark, Mark Donovan, and Andy… What they’ve done together, and how the players are carrying… This is special, it’s a special thing what they’re doing“, he also called for respect for the ownership group and head coach, Andy Reid, who have transformed the team into the respected and feared side they are today. Clearly, it’s better to stop and smell the roses sometimes, and the former safety tried to make the fans realize it.

But situations aren’t so simple in the field. The comments come at a moment when the Chiefs are far off the AFC favorite Ravens and face an uphill battle with their WR problems.

Can the Chiefs defend their title after an underperforming season?
While pundits can suggest the fans to calm down, no one can deny that the Chiefs aren’t doing what they have wanted. After opening the season with a loss, the defending champions built a win record until they faced the Eagles. The past year’s runner-ups broke the team’s rhythm, and since then the Chiefs have endured 2 more losses.

In those games, the wide receiver problem has reflected again and again for the team. First against the Packers, then against the Bills. QB Patrick Mahomes and HC Andy Reid infamously had to pay $150k in total fines after questioning the officiating, and the problems escalated to a whole new level.

The Chiefs are heading to the playoff with 9-5 and 2 games to play in hand. But how long can the team, or the pundits, ignore the niggling problems that are holding the side back? Hopefully, not till the team pays the ultimate cost in the postseason, which is just two weeks away.
