Chiefs Kingdom, it’s time for you to take a sigh of relief for now. Your reigning Super Bowl Champion QB Patrick Mahomes is probably just fine after scaring the whole of Kansas City. After getting sandwiched by two Browns defenders on Sunday, it looked like everything would fall apart for the Chiefs. But hey! Who are we kidding? It’s Patrick Mahomes, for god’s sake. Even injuries can’t keep him out of contention in the NFL.

The way he was limping off the field late in the fourth quarter, Mahomes didn’t look comfortable at all. In his place, the Chiefs decided to throw in backup QB Carson Wentz. Well, he did his mop-up duties by completing each of his passes for 20 yards. But the Chiefs wouldn’t have dared swap him for Mahomes, even for a week. Now, it looks like all those prayers have finally been answered.

As per the Pro Football Doc, David J.Chao, on Outkick, “Mahomes is built a little different. He is a little bit Gumby, so to speak. Very flexible. That’s why he has a rocket slingshot for an arm, and he can withstand this a little better. No surgery isn’t gonna miss a lot of time.” Now, this will be a major setback for other NFL franchises who were hoping that Mahomes would be sidelined for a while. But it seems like he will probably come back in the blink of an eye.

Well, that’s not where Chao stopped while talking about Mahomes’ capabilities. He went on to explain his history of ankle injuries. But every time the Chiefs QB suffered an ankle injury, he turned it around like a superhuman. Chao gave the most recent instance of Mahomes’ ankle injury, which he suffered against Jacksonville in 2022.

That was when the Chiefs won 27-17 over the Jaguars in their divisional round. When everyone thought Mahomes would be out with his high ankle sprain. He went on to play against the Bengals to claim the AFC Title, then topped it off by winning Super Bowl LVII in Arizona. Mahomes also talked about that injury and how it was really painful for him to play through. “The one in the playoffs a couple of years ago was a little bit of how I got tackled. It got stuck, and it hurt a lot. This time, I could move. I could still have mobility in my ankle.”

Well, it looks like Mahomes will have more than mobility as he races against time to prepare for the Texans on Saturday. As 31 other NFL franchises prepare for Mahomes resurgence.

NFL fans react to Patrick Mahomes injury update

After Monday’s tests came up, NFL insider Ian Rapoport reported that he did suffer an ankle sprain, but it was mild. He further added, “He’s still considered week-to-week. Tests confirmed initial thoughts. The schedule is tough, with a Saturday game then a quick turnaround for Christmas.” Well, this news got fans to react with a mixed set of feelings. One of them couldn’t hold his excitement as he wrote on X, “Carson Wentz and Sam Howell might start games in Week 16. What a world.”

Now, another fan echoed his thoughts, writing, “IS THAT CARSON WENTZ’S MUSIC!?” Probably, No. As another fan said, Mahomes not playing on Saturday looks highly unlikely: “No chance in hell Mahomes would let it happen but I don’t think it would be crazy to sit him against the Texans.”

Among all those reactions, there was a Steelers fan who wasn’t scared of facing the three-time Super Bowl Champion, “I want him to play against us on Christmas. I NEVER want handouts or any opportunities for an advantage. I want to earn everything. In order to be the best, you have to be able to beat the best.” So it remains to be seen whether this positive news about Mahomes’ injury will really work out before their short week. Otherwise, the Chiefs will have some serious trouble trying to win that No.1 AFC seed before the regular season.
