Personal records often shine, but it’s the team’s goals that primarily matter. Moreover, setting aside personal achievements is not everyone’s cup of tea. In a world where personal stats can cover up collective accomplishments, Tyreek Hill sets a different tone. And it seems it has reached the ears of Zach Ertz, as he opens up on his goals for the upcoming season.
“No one is gonna remember how many catches and yards I had in a game, you know, what they are gonna remember is how I built them up,” is what Zach Ertz said to Ryan Clark in an exclusive interview on 3rd August. The 3-time pro bowler and Super Bowl champion further sang a Tyreek Hill-like tune stating that he himself doesn’t remember the number of catches he had and thus can’t expect his teammates to remember. Ertz currently has 709 catches and 7434-yard coverage under his belt.
Zach Ertz is going into year 12. In addition, The Commanders’ TE confidently stated that teammates like Jayden Daniels will only remember how Zach used to coach him, “Hey, when I was young, Zach pulled me aside and kind of coached me, if you are playing this coverage to this coverage, is what I’m gonna do“. Ertz, 33, has stood by the side of a few rookie quarterbacks in his career, two of them being Carson Wentz and Jalen Hurts, and now he wishes to guide Jayden in his rookie stage. It seems like he now has a different vision of success.
Ertz didn’t stop there and explained his altered path of success to Ryan, “As I’ve gotten older, I’ve put less priority in individual accolade,“. Looks like the Commanders’ TE wants to be remembered “as a great teammate.” And Zach seems to be a man of his word as he helps his teammates to learn new offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury’s system, “He’s not a selfish guy. He wants to help everyone out. It’s been really fun to play with him… he’s a very personable guy and a guy that goes out of his way and wants to see the team win.”

Even though the TE still wishes to score TDs, he confessed that he hopes to build up his teammates. Pretty odd, right? Being a vet TE with glorious records, Ertz decides to work for his teammates. But will it still sound odd if we tell you that Zach Ertz was not the only one with these thoughts? Tyreek Hill, seems to be on the same page as Ertz despite being 3 years younger.
Tyreek Hill to match the Dolphins’ pace
On closing the 2023 season with 1799 yards of coverage, fans expected that the Cheetah would aim for his 2000 mark in the coming season. But, to everyone’s surprise, Hill thinks that it will be selfish of him to aim for such an individual goal, “And me being one of the leaders and just singling out an individual goal like that — because I had time to go look at, talk about it with my family, like, that’s very selfish of me.”

However, Hill did not fully cut off his aim of covering 2000 yards and only seems to shift his focus.” Going after 2,000 yards would be really great and exciting. But at the same time, I personally believe I need to understand I am one of the leaders and my position is crucial for the team.” Although his contract with the Dolphins is in limbo, Hill still wants to be on the franchise and take it ahead.
Looks like the Dolphins’ WR doesn’t want anything to supersede the foremost objective of ramping up his team as a leader. But can Hill grab the Lombardi trophy and the immortal number of 2000 yards at the same time? Well, it might be more difficult than it seems. What’s your take on this?
