Can Lamar Jackson ever lead the Ravens to a Super Bowl, or is he just not clutch enough?

Lamar Jackson’s AFC Championship meltdown just got a whole lot more raw! The Ravens’ star QB’s reflecting on his major regret from the 2024 playoffs, and it’s not pretty. Jackson took to X to unload his frustrations, and let’s just say, he’s not mincing words.

“How I’m feeling right now. I wish I was feeling like this, body-wise, in the AFC Championship. We would have won the game. … I know if my legs were good, we would have won that s—. We wouldn’t have even had to throw the ball. F— throwing the ball,” Jackson revealed. Talk about letting it all out!

Jackson’s got a serious chip on his shoulder. Eight months ago, after a brutal 17-10 loss to the Chiefs, the 27-year-old was so ticked off about a game-changing interception that he smashed his helmet into the ground. The reigning MVP has had a tough time against Patrick Mahomes—Jackson’s 1-4 record against the three-time Super Bowl champ is his worst against any team. Even with wins over legends like Tom Brady and Joe Burrow, the Chiefs have been his kryptonite.

As Baltimore preps for another showdown with Kansas City, the Cardinals standout is all about making things right. “I’m not just going to look at this game like it’s a revenge game,” Jackson asserted. “Anybody we’ve played, no matter if we’ve beat them or lost to them in previous years, I just want to win.” The Ravens are banking on Jackson to finally break the Chiefs’ spell and change the storyline. “I have all my faith in Lamar,” alluded LB Roquan Smith. “He’s the leader of this team.”

With the season opener on deck, the Heisman Trophy winner’s out to prove he’s more than just a star with a bad record against Mahomes. Despite his impressive career—like being the youngest two-time MVP ever—critics have been harsh.

Critics question Lamar Jackson’s clutch factor against Patrick Mahomes

After a gut-wrenching AFC Championship loss, folks questioned Jackson’s playoff game. An NFL defensive coordinator dropped a bombshell to Mike Sando of The Athletic: “He’s a 1 with limitations for me. You can win a lot of games with him, but he can’t pass when he has to.” Yep, Jackson’s got mad skills but seems to struggle when the heat’s on.

His regular-season stats are top-tier—67.2% completion rate, 3,678 yards, 24 TDs, plus 821 rushing yards and five more scores. Yet, Jackson’s playoff woes against Patrick Mahomes are a tough pill to swallow.

Nick Wright spelled it out on First Things First: Patrick Mahomes’ numbers are insane—354 passing yards, 14 TDs, and a stellar 115.5 passer rating against the Ravens. “The Chiefs have owned [Lamar Jackson] because Patrick Mahomes has thoroughly outplayed him,” Wright noted. Jackson’s turnovers have been a major pain point, casting doubt on his clutch factor.

As the Ravens gear up for another showdown, all eyes are on Jackson to flip the script. This game ain’t just another notch; it’s Jackson’s shot to shut down the critics and show he’s more than just a regular-season superstar.
