The first Super Bowl was played in 1967 between the Green Bay Packers and the Kansas City Chiefs. And the tradition has carried over for almost six decades. So here are some things you might have missed about the iconic show:

The history

There were no glamorous and extravagant musical acts during the initial decades of the Super Bowl halftime show. Till the 1990’s, the halftime show featured college marching bands. That changed at Super Bowl XXV (1991) with a performance of the pop band ‘New Kids On The Block’ and everything changed forever.

Michael Jackson effect

The major turning point for the halftime shows was Michael Jackson’s performance at Super Bowl XXVII (1993). The NFL wanted to boost its ratings and ward off competition from other networks. And Jackson helped tremendously in doing that for the NFL.

The show that never happened

Prince and the Foo Fighters were scheduled to perform at the halftime show for the Super Bowl XLI (2007). However, at the last moment, the NFL decided to shift the Super Bowl date from 4th February to 11th February to avoid competition with the Winter Olympics.

The payment
