Dan Campbell had a lot to say at the NFL League Meetings, and as usual, he didn’t hold back. From roster shakeups to offseason plans and his unfiltered thoughts on the Lions’ brutal schedule, he gave fans plenty to think about. Here are the five biggest takeaways from his session with the media.

1. The O-line picture is still blurry

Detroit’s offensive line situation is far from settled, and Campbell made it clear that nothing is set in stone. While Graham Glasgow remains a valuable piece, thanks to his versatility, the coaching staff is weighing multiple options, including a possible position switch.

Man, he can do an excellent job at center,” Campbell said, but he also left the door open for Glasgow to move back to right guard or even test out Giovanni Manu inside. “Do we try Manu at guard? That’s a thought,” he added. Expect competition across the board before any final decisions are made.

2. Defensive line upgrades aren’t over yet

The Lions have already retained key pieces on their defensive front, but they’re not done building. Campbell sounded optimistic about the group’s progress, especially with Levi Onwuzurike and Marcus Davenport returning.

If it goes the way we think it’s going to go, Davenport is going to be a hell of a player,” Campbell said. However, he also made it clear that more reinforcements could be on the way. “We’re not done, either. Maybe it will be the draft. We’re looking at everything.”

3. Offseason plans include a surprise

Campbell has usually been open about the team’s joint practice schedule, but this year, he’s keeping things under wraps. After getting some pushback for revealing details too early in the past, he’s staying quiet—for now.

What’s your perspective on:

Can Dan Campbell's fearless approach turn the Lions into playoff contenders despite their brutal schedule?

Have an interesting take?

I’m not going to say yet,” he said. “It seems like every year I’ve done that, it’s been this explosion, like, ‘Hey, I wish you would’ve told us before you did that’.” That being said, he did confirm that the Lions are working on setting up two joint practices this offseason.

4. A grueling schedule? Campbell loves it

The Lions are facing one of the toughest road schedules in the league, with trips to Kansas City, Philadelphia, Baltimore, and more. But if you think Dan Campbell is intimidated, think again.

This is going to be a meat grinder, you know?” he said, even going as far as hoping for miserable weather to make things even harder. “I hope it rains, it’s mud, it’s everything, the whole deal.” Still, he’s staying focused on the ultimate goal: “The bottom line is this, it doesn’t matter, just get your a– in the playoffs.”

5. More talent and leadership are on the way

Campbell knows the Lions need to add more depth, particularly at wide receiver. With free agency wrapping up, the focus is shifting toward the draft. “We would love to bring in more competition, particularly some youth,” he said, acknowledging that the team was fortunate to stay mostly healthy last season.

Beyond just adding talent, Campbell emphasized the growth of player leadership. “Every year has gotten more and more where our leaders—St. Brown, Sewell, Goff, Hutch, Anzalone—have begun to take this thing over,” he said.

And as for Jared Goff? He’s taking more control of the offense, and Dan Campbell is here for it. “Everything we wanted him to do in the offense, he did,” he said. “And then he began to bring stuff to us… That’s beginning to show.”
