Well, this was not on the books. The defending champions, Kansas City Chiefs, are on a 2-game-losing streak and have lost 3 of their last 4. What started as a smooth sailing season has become a horrid ride in its second part. And it has taken a toll on the superstar QB Patrick Mahomes and DT Chris Jones.

Usually, a picture of stoicism and calmness, Mahomes also lost his cool during the defeat against the Buffalo Bills. But he wasn’t the only one. DT Chris Jones was irate on the sideline as well.

Patrick Mahomes is under immense pressure

Being the defending champions has never been easy in the football world. And now Patrick Mahomes is feeling that burden of pressure and responsibility. So is the 29-year-old DT Jones, considered the backbone of the Chiefs’ defense, as he quarreled with his DL coach Joe Cullen.

The scenes do not paint a pretty picture, but neither did the game itself, which the Chiefs losing 17-20 at home. It was a close affair, and that is what sent Mahomes past his composed nature. A bad call in the final minutes of the game and Mahomes shouted at the refs while being held down by his teammates and coaches.

“Wildest f—— call I’ve ever seen”, Mahomes said after the game to the opposing QB Josh Allen. With four games left to be played in the regular season, the Chiefs are comfortable to go to the playoffs with a record of 8-5. But must pull up their socks for upcoming tough fixtures.

Patrick Mahomes and Co. need to get on their ‘A’ game

With only four games left to play, the Chiefs need to get back to their winning ways if they want to enjoy home-court advantage in the playoffs. That is easier said than done. With two divisional rivals waiting in the wings for revenge and two competitive teams yet to be played, the Chiefs need to get back their heads in the game.

Their immediate next week game is against the New England Patriots. Though the Patriots are having one of their worst seasons in a long time, their shock win against the Steelers will give them motivation to take on the Chiefs.
