The Eagles won the Super Bowl, annihilating the Chiefs’ kingdom. And promotions came flying. Kellen Moore was already eyeing a promotion at the Saints. Two days after winning the trophy, they announced it, welcoming him as the head coach. But not everyone in the league is supportive of the decision. Some are expressing their dissent with their actions.

With 4 years of experience as a tight ends coach, Kevin Koger has options to choose from. He spent 3 years with the Packers from 2021 to 2023, before coming to the Falcons for one year. But after finishing the 2024 season with a 5-12 win-loss record, the Saints wanted to boost their staff. And they approached the veteran TE coach with a promotion to the offensive coordinator position, who turned down the offer.

In fact, Koger bypassed the entire division and interviewed for two teams that also needed a revival. According to a source, he interviewed with the Cowboys and Browns. The Cowboys are playing under a new head coach, Brian Schottenheimer, after ending the season with a 7-10 record. The Browns were even worse, with a 3-14 record.

That’s a tremendous blow to Kellen Moore, who has an immense responsibility to turn around the fortunes of the Saints. During his introductory press conference, the HC said, “I think when you get to team up with special people, you get to do special things. I’m really excited about that opportunity.” That’s fine. But from where will he get the people?

They have both positions, the offensive and defensive coordinators, to fill. Even the interim HC Darren Rizzi was fired. But he made a stunning return as the Broncos special teams coordinator. But he is also paying attention to the players.

What’s your perspective on:

Is Derek Carr the right QB for the Saints, or should they gamble on a Dak Prescott trade?

Kellen Moore might pull off a wild trade

In 2023, the Saints brought in Derek Carr from the Raiders. But he failed to live up to the expectations so far. In the 2024 season, he amassed a production of a mere 2,145 yards with 15 touchdowns. The opponents overpowered him 8 times and he had 5 interceptions. seasons have been below expectations for the 33-year-old. They finished 2nd in the NFC South division with a 9-8 record and were eliminated from the postseason. Also, oblique and hand injuries marred the 2024 season for Carr, finishing with a 5-5 record in 10 games.

However, Kellen Moore acknowledged the QB’s talent and said, “Derek’s a tremendous quarterback in this league. We’re fortunate to have him, and we’re excited to go through this process as we build this roster together.” But he did not commit Carr as the starting QB in 2025.

Amid this, rumors emerged that he might try to bring the Cowboys QB Dak Prescott to the Saints. Prescott signed a 4-year $240 million contract ahead of the 2024 season. So shelling that much money for a signal caller seems improbable. But many people believe he would try to use his influence in the Cowboys to get the trade.

There is another roadblock. Carr signed a 4-year $150 million contract with the Saints. If they decide to trade him, they have to pay cap hits of $51 million in 2025 and $61 million in 2026. Well, the head coach will take his time. There is a month almost to make decisions before free agency opens on March 12. It would be interesting.
