Is it just bad luck or coincidence that Dennis Allen gets sacked twice with Derek Carr as his starting quarterback? Well, serious questions need to be asked as Allen leaves New Orleans after two years in charge. Having lost seven in a row this season, the Saints firing Dennis Allen isn’t a surprise to many.
However, on the back of losing his job in the NFL, Allen sent out an emotional message to the fans, “Of course I’m disappointed, but I love that organization, I love the people in there and will always have so much love for the city of New Orleans. I always will!” Seeing Allen react to his sudden exit from New Orleans, he was an integral part of the franchise for a number of years.
Just got off the phone with Dennis Allen. Obviously disappointed but had nothing but love for the Saints and New Orleans. “Of course I’m disappointed but I love that organization, I love the people in there and will always have so much love for the city of New Orleans. I always…

Serving as their defensive assistant from 2006 to 10, Allen was part of the Super Bowl XLIV winning team in 2009. He was then hired as the defensive coordinator in 2015 under then-head coach Sean Payton. After he left his role in New Orleans, Allen was given the role of head coach in 2022. With an overall record of 18-25, he leaves the Saints without being able to make the playoffs even once.
Even the Saints owner Gayle Benson announced his decision with a heavy heart, “He has been extremely loyal and professional and, most importantly, an excellent football coach for us. All of this makes today very tough for me and our organization. I wish nothing but the best in the future for Dennis and his family.” Although Allen earned plaudits for his work in defense, this season, the Saints struggled mightily in their back-line.
Over the 9 games, the Saints defense allowed 376.4 yards per game, thereby finding themselves 28th within the league. Well, their offense wasn’t great either, as the Saints ranked 16th for 331.4 yards per game. All those struggles may have led to fans branding Derek Carr as a ‘coach-killer,’ with Dennis Allen getting shown the door after Sunday.

Losing to bottom dwellers, Carolina was the final nail that got Dennis Allen sacked in New Orleans. Them having an equal 2-7 record after 9 games led to players apologizing to fans. Their long-term defensive lineman, Cam Jordan, spoke about the fans’ expectations, “We just lost to the panthers. I love y’ll, New Orleans truly had higher expectations and the best of hopes for us. Y’ll deserve it.” While Jordan asked their fans to stick by the team in such a rough time, their former WR Michael Thomas had other thoughts.
He instead blamed Derek Carr, who became the first QB to lose against 31 franchises in the NFL, “They fired all them coaches trying to cover his flaws up he still doing the same s—.” While Thomas blamed Carr on Sunday, after Monday’s decision, fans started to question Carr, “Derek Carr got the same coach fired twice, different level of garbage but that b—- gone too.” Well, you have to go back to 2014, when Allen was the head coach of the Oakland Raiders.
