Is it fair to expect Caleb Williams to be the Bears' Superman every single play?

When the Chicago Bears drafted Caleb Williams as their number 1 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, they touted him as the ‘savior.’ And his resume was extraordinary. In 3 years of college football, the QB had a 23-10 win-loss record for 9,782 yards with a 66.9% pass completion rate and 93 touchdowns. But his entry into the NFL hasn’t been that smooth. In the first 3 games, the rookie has won one and lost two. A former USC quarterback believes he is under pressure.

During his recent appearance on Up & Adams with Kay Adams Show, EX-NFLer Mark Sanchez said, “I think he’s forced to try and do too much because of the situation. Give me a couple more yards on first down. This stuff is all fixable by the way, it’s not like, they’re cursed and they got no chance. They have more than enough to get this thing rolling.” Is there any factual backing to that? We dived deep and found one.

In the first game against the Tennessee Titans, the rookie had 14 of 29 passes with 93 yards and the longest pass of 13 yards. In the 2nd game against the Houston Texans, Caleb Williams recorded 23 of 37 passes with 174 yards and a 27-yard longest pass. Against the Colts, he had 33 of 52 passes with 363 yards and 47 yards. With each game, his pass attempts are getting longer on the field.

Former NFL star thinks that the Bears have to change their approach and added, “A little more conservative approach would be fine, and then, when it’s time to be Superman, throw on the cap big guy. It’s Fourth and 15, we need a throw go for it. You get picked off there. I don’t care that, that’s fine. But Clark Kent doesn’t turn into Superman to go stop a misdemeanor traffic violation in Metropolis.” To stop him from regularly becoming a Superman, the offense needs to perform.

Williams inspired his O-line to take charge in the week 3 game against the Colts. And they picked pace. In 84 plays, they covered 395 yards. Their conversion was also poor. The O-line had 42.9% third down efficiency from 9 out of 21 plays and 80% fourth down efficiency from 4 out of 5 plays. The rookie scored his first touchdown against the Colts.

Amid the stress of the offense, a fresh wave of air has come in.

Caleb Williams happy with Keenan Allen’s return

The wide receiver department of the Bears received a major boost on the 26th of September. 6 times Pro Bowl Keenan Allen returned to the team practice. Though he only practiced for a few drills, the locker room is pumped up. After aggravating his heel injury during the win against the Titans, he missed the next 2 games. But his comeback brings much-needed relief.

Caleb Williams welcomed Allen’s return and said, “It’s gonna be great for our offense. It’s just something else that the defense has to worry about throughout this week and then obviously on game day.” The WR would provide the much required support to fellow WR Rome Odunze who had 6 catches for 112 yards with 1 touchdown against Colts.

The tight end Cole Kmet, who made 10 receptions for 97 yards and a 6-yard touchdown catch against the Colts, also shared a similar sentiment. They gave great support to the rookie who played his first 300+ yard game in week 3. But the WR’s return to the fold gives them a greater chance of winning.

With 1-2 win-loss record in the first 3 games, the Bears need revival in week 4 against the Rams. Can the rookie lead the team to a victory?
