Is muting replies a sign of weakness or a smart move to avoid toxic fans?

One pillar of the Niners Empire got a chip on the last day of August. A robber critically injured their rookie wideout, Ricky Pearsall. But no need to worry. 24 hours later, he is serious but in a stable condition. Expectedly, his teammates were concerned when they first learned of the situation. And one of his teammates was trolled badly by fans for expressing his concerns about the WR.

When the 49ers‘ long snapper Taybor Pepper heard about Pearsall initially, he tweeted, “Glad to hear Ricky is stable. 🙏🏼14.” Then began the trolling of fans. While one fan wrote, “Are you still that liberal piece of s—?“, another took shots at his political side, commenting “Democrat.” This was enough for the athlete, who then muted the replies to his tweet. What followed 30 minutes later was even more hilarious.

He then tweeted, “Cannot believe I had to mute replies to my last tweet.” Pepper would have hoped that people would be more supportive, but the opposite of that happened. One comment read, “What are the s——- pronouns‘. Another comment even went a little too extreme, and cursed the player before stating that it is “Time to restore law and order.” This surely wasn’t expected. However, many people supported the injured athlete, sending their wishes for a quick recovery for the wide receiver. But why did this happen?

Well, the moment at which it happened is not right. However, Pepper has been a Democrat for a long time. He often tweets about political views which might have rubbed many people the wrong way. Hence, they roasted him. But one thing is for sure. Rule of law is necessary to avoid such incidents.

The Niners provided the first wave of relief to the worrying fans. Just a few hours after he was admitted to the hospital, they released an official statement which read that the WR was fine. They also requested the Faithful to respect the privacy of Ricky Pearsall and his family. However, many players were also tense about it and felt relieved after reading the official statement.

The first message came through WR Deebo Samuel, who tweeted, “He’s good🤞🏾🙏🏾. Thank god!!!!” It indeed is a silver lining amid such troubling news. Pearsall just missed a situation that could have turned very wrong for him. But he is fine now. Another receiver, Bradon Aiyuk, also sighed, “Great News.” However, the situation has forced them to change their plans.

The timing of this moment can have a domino effect on Ricky Pearsall’s career and the 49ers’ future. It all depends on how early he can match the fitness standards for the league’s WRs. For now, let’s hope he comes back home from the hospital soon.
