The Philadelphia Eagles’ offensive tackle Jordan Mailata revealed the heartbreak moment that crept into the locker room this season. In an exclusive interview with us, while promoting the NRL Telstra Premiership season beginning on the second of next month, Mailata admitted that the December dysfunction was real and impacted the team.
Coming from a strong 10-1 lead, it was pretty strange for the Philly fans to digest their slide to the extent that they only won two games out of six after their bye week. During that “embarrassing” phase (as quoted by Jason Kelce), the Eagles never mentally recovered from getting destroyed. As a result, they lost their first playoff with just 9 points against the Buccaneer’s 32 score. Jordan Mailata recently, in an exclusive interview with EssentiallySports, outlined how the “outside noise” during this phase broke them.

Jordan Mailata appeared in an exclusive interview with EssentiallySports and talked about the NRL rugby season, which is upcoming for the American audience in Las Vegas for the first time. Mailata, who also played Australian rugby before his NFL career, updated the rugby fans about why the NRL season will be a thrill. Besides promoting the grand event, Mailata also revealed how the “outside noise” created issues in the team’s locker room. When asked about the locker room dysfunction and how the entire team could shut out that noise, Mailata highlighted the reality of the noise influence.
He said, “As a professional athlete, you got to remember the outside noises. You can’t let that affect you as a person and you as a teammate. We tried very hard to keep that focus about us and the mission that we were on. It got lost in the gravy somewhere along the way.” Mailata continued, “I think we had a couple moments during the year where we kind of let out outside noises come into the locker room and try and tear us apart. Then we got back on track, a lot of things going on during the year so it was a bit tough.”
However, Mailata admitted they managed and tried to fix everything, but it was a tough season. Their lost mission and focus were the talk of the town for the Eagles when they started fumbling in the points table.

The Eagles face uncertainty in the 2024 offseason after falling short of expectations in 2023 due to the 2022 Super Bowl appearance. Despite optimistic expectations fueled by a strong draft and the re-signing of key free agents, the team faltered in the latter part of the season. According to Over the Cap, as they approached the offseason, the Eagles ranked in the league’s lower half with limited cap space.
However, the impending unrestricted free agency only includes eight players who played over 30% of snaps. Looking forward to 2024, the Eagles aim to remain contenders for the Super Bowl, but challenges such as the potential retirement of Jason Kelce and financial constraints suggest upcoming roster changes following the disappointing conclusion to the previous season.
