Dan Quinn has an exceptional resume. Whether it is the Atlanta Falcons where he dominated as the HC or the Dallas Cowboys as their defensive coordinator, Quinn has showcased his deep understanding of the game of football. A similar expectation is set concerning the Washington Commanders that is taking form through draft picks and other roster changes.

On the front line are the new additions Jayden Daniels and Dominique Hampton, who slowly but surely seem to be the right fit for the team. Acknowledging this fresh batch of players and energy in the Commanders, their former front office executive and retired DB attested to Peters’ and Quinn’s choices.

He came to John Keim’s show and made a case for why Dan Quinn was the right choice for the organization. The Washington team drafted 9 players in the 2024 draft and got 5 defensive players to add to the franchise. These players were drafted keeping Dan Quinn’s resume in mind and a zeal to put the best team together.

“He [Dan Quinn} knows what needs to be done this time around. I think the way in which they have methodically gone about trying to reconstruct this roster, build it in the image of Dan Quinn, because ultimately that’s what Adam’s job is going to be to do to put this team together in the image of the head coach,” said Louis Reddick of Peters and Quinn.

Dan Quinn was 43-42 with the Atlanta Falcons, leading them to a Super Bowl against Tom Brady and Bill Belichick. During his Falcons tenure, he was 3-2 in the playoffs. Though the Falcons lost 34-28 to the Patriots, Quinn’s efforts made him one of the most revered coaches in the league. He also improved the Cowboys’ defense significantly and was the leading authority on the “Legion of Boom,” a unit that led the Seahawks to a Super Bowl win in 2013.

Now, he’s paired with Adam Peters, who worked with the 49ers previously and was also responsible for picking Brock Purdy, who led his team to the finals last year. Peters is trying to build a Super Bowl-caliber team; this time it’s Washington’s turn. “So, he’s trying to build up a strong defensive line, build this team inside out, build it front to back. You’ve heard me talk about this over and over again you know through the years,” said Reddick, commending the HC’s zest for structuring the team for a competitive season.

Defensively, the team drafted DT Jer’Zhan Newton, CB Mike Sainristil, LB Jordan Magee, SAF Dominique Hampton, and EDGE Javontae Jean-Baptiste. Out of the bunch, safety Dominique Hampton truly stands out and fits in Dan Quinn’s defensive plays. The ex-Huskies player can play Cornerback, DB, and even safety and linebacker when it comes to it.

Critics and scouts think of him as a sharp, focused, and athletic professional. Roman Tomashoff of USA Today said that his athleticism has “allowed him to play every position in the secondary, which in turn has increased his understanding of the back end of a defense and could allow coaches to utilize him in a variety of ways at the NFL level, even though he would still fit best at safety.”

The Safety had 108 total tackles, out of which 64 were solo and 44 were assisted. He mentioned in a recent podcast with the Commanders that the team is trying to deploy him as a safety and a DB and that he’s a “perfect fit” for Dan Quinn’s team. Hampton is the leading competitor in Washington’s defense and only time will prove how dangerous of a threat he is going to prove for the opposition.
