Did the Jets make a colossal mistake trading for Davante Adams instead of a proven star?

Despite Davante Adams and Aaron Rodgers’ reunion in green and white last week, the Jets weren’t able to secure a victory against the Steelers. While the Jets send a conditional third-round pick to the Raiders that could turn into a second-round pick if certain clauses are hit. Adams’ debut wasn’t something that Jets fans would have hoped for, as he finished with 3 catches for 30 yards.

This got ex-Jets VP Andrew Brandt to criticise Adams’ trade while comparing it with the Bills trade for Amari Cooper, “The Amari Cooper trade for the Bills was heads and tails better than the Adams trade for the Jets.” While it’s early to call shots on the Jets’ trade for Adams, as he was coming off a hamstring injury. After sitting out three games in a row while getting traded to a new franchise. It may have been somewhat overwhelming for the six-time Pro Bowler.

Rodgers, who combined with Adams for more than 100 catches in Green Bay, also expressed his feelings after the game, “I wouldn’t say it’s rust. We can continue to get on a better page. It’s just football. It doesn’t always work perfectly.” While Rodgers only targeted Davante 9 times in Pittsburgh, the Jets WR wasn’t pleased with his performance on the night. Sharing his thoughts on the defeat, Adams expressed, “There was a lack of energy and urgency out there, and it was apparent. I played on teams that have winning culture, and just basically I just took a moment to let them know I had reservations about speaking up too early and being vocal too early.”

Well, the speech that Adams gave post-defeat thoroughly impressed Rodgers, who called it “the realest speech I’d ever heard in a locker room in 20 years.” While his words may have resonated through the Jets locker room, Davante finished it with a one-liner, “We don’t have time.” And, the Jets are indeed functioning on borrowed time as their season could be over soon. If things don’t improve in New York with Adams onboard, Robert Saleh fired, and Nathaniel Hackett demoted, then the Jets could kiss their season goodbye.

Although Andrew Brandt is yet to be proven right, Bills WR Amari Cooper did show shades of brilliance against the Titans last week.

Amari Cooper announces his arrival as Davante Adams records a lackluster outing in debut

Have an interesting take?

As the Browns‘ season continues to sink in Cleveland, they decided to cash in on their prized WR Amari Cooper. Sealing a trade deal with the Bills, the Browns traded the 30-year-old and a 2025 sixth-round pick to Buffalo. And in return, they got a third-round pick next season and a seven-round pick in 2026. This may allow them to rebuild after their disastrous $230 million Dashaun Watson deal in 2022. With him out for the season with an ACL injury, the Bills may have found themselves a gem in Cooper.

Playing only 18 snaps in his debut, Cooper recorded four catches for 66 yards while adding a TD to his name. Well, by doing so, he did garner praise from Bills QB Josh Allen, who targeted him just five times on Sunday. “Trying to get as much time as possible with him. Talking about little nuances in our game plan. Things that I like to see and vice versa. Just trying to get on the same page. But again, his professionalism is through the room.”
