Former Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver T.J. Houshmandzadeh sparked a controversial debate about Dak Prescott on SPEAK on July 30. While some think Prescott’s disrespect is crazy, others would take Trevor Lawrence over the Dallas Cowboys star, citing Prescott’s playoff performance as the reason behind this snub.

Jerry Jones and Dak Prescott subtly admitted that their time to split up was nigh. There’s no contesting the fact that Dak Prescott will eventually get a record-setting contract, whether the Cowboys will keep him or not. TJ admitted it but advised everyone to take his opinion with a grain of salt.

He [Dak] wouldn’t reset the market if I was writing the checks and I’m signing the checks,” said Houshmandzadeh, as James Jones couldn’t believe the words coming out of his mouth. “I can’t pay a quarterback $60 million, and we have a home playoff game, and you lose.”

Joy Taylor quickly rebutted with the curious case of Trevor Lawrence getting paid way ahead of time. “I can flip a coin with Dak and Trevor Lawrence,” said Houshmandzadeh, countering Taylor’s argument. The case of Trevor Lawrence is curious indeed, and there are reasons why the Jacksonville Jaguars decided to give him a behemoth extension.

The QB market is exploding, and sooner or later, the Jags might have faced a roadblock if they tried to pay Trevor Lawrence in the future. It’s just better to do it right now. The Jaguars are betting all their chips on Lawrence, and that’s fine. He’s been healthy for the most part, has been putting up 4,000-yard seasons for the past two years, and most importantly, he’s the first overall pick of the 2021 draft. Think of Lawrence’s extension as future investments that may or may not yield results.

“When you’re the first pick of the draft, if you have any success, you’re getting paid,” said Houshmandzadeh. “If Trevor Lawrence is the quarterback of the Dallas Cowboys these last two years, he does equal. He doesn’t do worse than what Dak did,”  he added stirring the pot some more.

Well, it would be unfair to talk about Dak Prescott and not address what’s going on with other quarterbacks in the league, especially with Jordan Love, who scored a historic contract with the Green Bay Packers. It’s gotten to a point where people are blatantly calling Jerry Jones “cheap.”

Jerry Jones takes the heat for missing opportunities

The Cowboys owner will need all the infinity stones if he wants to save his franchise next year. The problem is that the Cowboys only have $11 million left in their cap space, and that’s not enough to deal with the double whammy. On one hand, they have Dak Prescott; on the other, they have CeeDee Lamb. Even after putting up league-leading numbers, the QB-WR duo is facing heaps of criticism for losing to the Green Bay Packers in the playoff game.

Some people blame Jerry Jones for his myopic vision of the Cowboys, others think he’s not spending enough, and some believe that Jones’s media shenanigans and attention-hogging tendencies will become his Achilles heel. Jones waited for the “leaves to fall,” and now, the whole tree is dried up. Recently, Mike Florio of PFT did some more damage to the business tycoon’s reputation.

The Cowboys owner recently admitted that he didn’t fire Mike McCarthy because he didn’t want to pay him for doing nothing. The team had the opportunity to hire Bill Belichick when they could, but they didn’t. The problem, per Florio, is that Jerry Jones is too stuck in his ways and can’t look past making sound financial decisions. That’s everything to him.

“When in the hell will the Cowboys gonna get their young star players taken care of? When are the Cowboys gonna wake up? When are they gonna stop being cheap, short-sighted, and not as smart as they think they are, when it comes to dealing with their star players? It keeps blowing up in their faces!” said Florio on PFT.

The two-minute warning has sounded for Jerry Jones. There might not be enough time left to get all the pieces together. Forget Dak Prescott and his post-season troubles; the Cowboys didn’t pay CeeDee Lamb, who’s a league-leading receiver. Next year, they will force Micah Parsons to sign a new deal as a DE and not an LB. All this just speaks volumes for Jerry Jones’s mindset, which just seems to be focused on money.

Sports fans are emotionally driven. They don’t care about the financial problems that their teams are facing. It’s the management’s job to fix these issues. Maybe the Cowboys need to revise their primordial ways and get with the times.
