After week 9, the Eagles are 6-2 in the season. They defeated the Jaguars, but there has been an anomaly. Instead of a player, their head coach, Nick Sirianni, has made more headlines. A few weeks back, he yelled at home fans. In the week 9 game, he pushed the team to go for 3 fourth-down attempts for 2 points, but none of them succeeded. Now, theories are coming out about what may be the reason behind his going crazy.
On November 5, former WR Julian Edelman appeared on The Herd with Colin Cowherd. He said a fascinating thing about the Eagles’ locker room dynamics. He claimed that earlier Jason Kelce and some other players often went straight to the HC’s office and sorted things out. According to Edelman, Jalen Hurts ain’t the type of guy who likes confrontations. But he also admitted they have talent.

There was one more thing that might hurt the Iggles’ fans. When Cowherd pointed out that they haven’t beaten good teams yet, Edelman agreed. Ex-NFLer even claimed further that the leadership (aka Nick Sirianni) has been ‘too noisy’. That’s not a very positive update for the fans.
The coach has been giving his perspective on the 4th down, but the criticism isn’t stopping. Everyone is questioning his approach to being aggressive. How long would it work? The coach wouldn’t stop. He has indicated that he would take those chances as per his trust in his team. That’s a huge thing to say, but ultimately results matter. Had they missed a few more chances, the matchup would have ended with a loss against the Jaguars.

Talent alone isn’t enough. You have to be patient for it to win games. The HC is always a little short on that.

Nick Sirianni needs to develop new strategies
Whether you like him or not, he will keep doing whatever he can to win. He’s a risk-taker. It showed when he started forming Tush Push play in the games in 2022. With an O-line boasting of bigger-than-average players, it was a success at first. Jason Kelce (6’3″, 295 pounds), Lane Johnson (6’6″, 325 pounds), Jordan Mailata (6’8″, 365 pounds), and Landon Dickerson (6’6″, 332 pounds) are not easy to handle.

Hence, when Nick Sirianni started this, the Eagles scored points at will. In 2022, they converted 93% (25 of 27) chances followed by an 83% (35 of 42) conversion rate in 2023. In 2024, when they used the tush push during the season opener against the Packers, they could only convert 1 of 4. But the coach must be paying attention to all the criticism.
He has always surprised his rivals with his plans. Now that the team looks set to enter the playoffs, he might be already making new strategies. However, there are many things about him that the fans couldn’t understand. After all, if a simple move can win the game, why go for riskier routes?
