Come on! Every Steelers fan dreams of another quarterback like Terry Bradshaw or Ben Roethlisberger. Someone who doesn’t just win a Super Bowl but leads the team to dominance for years. Yet, it’s been 16 long years since Pittsburgh last lifted the Lombardi Trophy. Could Aaron Rodgers be the one to change that, at least just for once?
“I’m not going to beat around the bush, man: We want to win a Super Bowl.” Last offseason, Garrett Wilson expressed the New York Jets’s aim of winning the Lombardi. Even their quarterback Aaron Rodgers was delighted to hear this, as he said, “That’s what you want. It’s spectacular.”
Yeah, it is indeed exceptional. But some things are just words as the actions don’t necessarily end with our expectations. The same happened with Rodgers, who is now a free agent this offseason after his release. But the opportunities are still open for the veteran player!

Aaron Rodgers was seen as a suitable candidate for the Vikings and Steelers’s quarterback role. But the Vikings backed off, focusing more on their young option – JJ McCarthy. But what about the Steelers? Former NFLer Robert Griffin III joined the Dan Patrick Show on Wednesday, and when he was asked what’s happening in the Steelers?
His answer was simple and straight – “I have no idea.”
To be honest, no one has a clue what the franchise is doing. So, we are definitely with the ex-QB on this.

What’s your perspective on:
Is Aaron Rodgers the missing piece for the Steelers, or should they focus on younger talent?
Have an interesting take?
Anyway, on a serious note, Patrick then brought up the angle of Aaron Rodgers and his chances of becoming a quarterback for Pittsburgh. To which, Griffin III added, “My take on the Steelers was that as soon as they traded for DK Metcalf, they should have gone ahead and signed Russell Wilson. DK Metcalf had his best seasons with Russell Wilson as a starting quarterback…..I just felt like that if you’re going to do it and you put it out there to Aaron Rogers.”
The two mirror each other on the pitch. They have some of the most ridiculous stats known to fans, with the duo winning one championship and earning 10 Pro Bowls.
Griffin continued, “Hey, I think I even saw Cam Hayward, (who) was talking about it – if they asked him what he was going to a Darkness Retreat, if it was going to get Aaron Rodgers to come in and be a Pittsburgh Steeler and his answer was no, I’m not doing that. (So) if you want to be a Pittsburgh Steeler then you want to be a Pittsburgh Steeler.”
But as per Griffin, the QB doesn’t want to go to the Steelers.
Instead, Griffin suspected that Aaron Rodgers wanted to be with the Vikings. Why? It’s simply because the team won a lot last season and looks ready to compete. On the other hand, the Giants had too much instability with a coach and GM in the host seat. Hence, as per Griffin, the ultimate solution for the four-time MVP remains speculations related to his retirement.
Talking about the same, he said that he had predicted earlier that Rodgers would either go to Minnesota or retire. No doubt, the Vikings had a top-10 defense, elite weapons like Justin Jefferson, T.J. Hockenson, Jordan Addison, and Aaron Jones, plus a solid offensive line – everything a quarterback could want. He even joked that it felt like history repeating itself, comparing Rodgers to Brett Favre.
So, for Aaron Rodgers “I thought it was that (going into the Vikes) or retire and he may decide to continue to play or whatever. But when it comes to the Steelers, I think it’s all changed now. Once you bring in DK Metcalf because you’re showing any quarterback out there, ‘hey we’re going to put the resources around you, we’re going to build the offensive line, we’re ready to roll’ and if he (Rodgers) doesn’t say yes to that, then I just don’t think he wants to play.”
Aaron Rodgers indeed wanted to be with the Vikes, as per the reasons mentioned by Griffin. But now that the QB isn’t on the team’s radar, the Steelers have a clear path to pick him up. However, there’s a twist!
Is it Aaron Rodgers or the Steelers themselves behind delaying a deal?
As Robert Griffin III highlighted, Aaron Rodgers probably doesn’t want to go to the Steelers. This could be a reason for the delay in signing a deal with them. But what if the Steelers aren’t in the mood right now?

As per NFL insider, Jordan Schultz, “Sources have indicated that the Steelers are fine waiting for Rodgers to make a decision… And money has not been an issue.” The Steelers are indeed in desperate need of some stability under center. Their free-agent quarterback, Russell Wilson, wants to play for the black and gold.
But given the previous five straight losses and no playoff, entry became a disaster for him.
Nevertheless, signing a veteran like Aaron Rodgers instead of Russell Wilson could also work for the Steelers. It could help a younger talent too in the roster. But for now, they are just waiting, as many think Mike Tomlin might look for a QB in the 2025 NFL Draft. So, it’s clear Rodgers could retire or sign with the Steelers if he is ready.
