Kyler Murray in the MVP race with Mahomes—Is he the real deal or just a flash in the pan?

This Sunday’s clash at State Farm Stadium was no ordinary day of football. As the Cardinals blew away the injury-ravaged Rams by recording a 41-10 victory over them. Well, it was made more special as the victory in Glendale was the first one for the Cardinals against the Rams since 2014.

Although the match had everything a Cardinals fan could have hoped for, they might have found their MVP in that dominant display. Ex-NFLer Dan Orlovsky gave his thoughts on GetUp ESPN about the sensational display Cardinals QB Kyler Murray offered this Sunday, “Kyler Murray’s tape was top five players in the league type of tape. You saw everything from times getting outside the pocket. Hitting Marvin Harrison for big plays down the field early in that football game.”

Rightfully pointed out by Orlovsky, Murray’s and Harrison’s combination for the first 15 minutes was sublime, to say the least. After an okayish debut against the Bills, Harrison was a different beast altogether. As he completed four catches, 130 yards and two TDs in the first quarter itself.

Continuing on those praises of Murray’s clinical passing capabilities, Orlovsky added, “You saw some pinpoint accurate throw vs some really good coverage. The ball placement maybe the best I have ever seen from Kyler Murray.” Well, he isn’t wrong as the first touchdown that Cardinals rookie WR scored was a pinpoint pass made towards the end zone. At the same time, his second touchdown came from a deeper angle that found Harrison, thereby prompting him to put it down at the end zone.

Opening up on his impressive showing in Arizona, Murray stated, “When you play hard, when you play for each other, good things happen.” Even Cardinals head coach Jonathan Gannon had nothing but praise for the QB, “He was lights out today. He’s a premium player for a reason. You take him against anybody. That’s how I feel.”

Have an interesting take?

As Murray finished his day at 17-of-21 passes, 266 yardage, and 3 TDs, he ended up drawing comparisons with reigning NFL MVP Patrick Mahomes. Finishing on his thoughts about Cardinals QB, former NFL QB Orlovsky stated, ” When you also saw those plays, you don’t think outside Patrick Mahomes and Lamar Jackson and Josh Allen. Anybody’s making but Kyler, it was the best game I have seen Kyler play as an NFL player.”

You could be surprised after hearing Murray getting compared with the Chiefs QB. However, it isn’t the first time he has drawn comparisons with the three-time Super Bowl Champion.

With Murray, on his quest to re-establish himself as one of the finest QBs in the NFL. It might not be surprising for him to get compared with two-time NFL MVP Patrick Mahomes. Seeing Murray closely in Arizona, team captain LB Kyzir White spoke about the resemblance he draws with Mahomes, “I feel like him and Patrick Mahomes are real similar. They can beat you with their arm and their feet. I feel like he’s going to do a lot of great things and prove a lot of people wrong.”

Mahomes has already established himself among the greats to have played in the division. His plays and ability to control the ball need no introduction. As Murray tries to rediscover his form after suffering a major injury like a torn meniscus in 2022. White expressed his excitement at having the QB back, “Definitely a different energy knowing you’re gonna have him out there.”
