Aaron Glenn came in with a mission. Everyone believed he’d change the culture wherever he landed, and now he’s starting to show it. Meanwhile, the New York Jets had already done everything they could for Aaron Rodgers. They built around him, catered to him, gave him the keys. But it didn’t pay off. Rodgers started games, and the Jets still went 6-12. It got ugly fast.

Before 2024 concluded, the team hit the reset button. They fired head coach Robert Saleh, and general manager Joe Douglas. They threw all their chips in on Rodgers and watched the whole thing collapse right in front of them. We can’t deny the fact that the franchise was still a bit ready to go with the available QB on the team. But Glenn came, and everything was over in a snap!

During the Pat McAfee Show, Aaron Rodgers revealed what happened in the meeting room with him. “I figured that when I flew across country on my own dime that there was going to be a conversation. And the confusing thing to me — and the strange thing — was when I went out there, I meet with the coach, we start talking, he runs out of the room. I’m like, ‘That’s kind of strange.’ Then he comes back with the GM (Darren Mougey) and I’m like, ‘All right.’ So, we sit down in the office, and….20 seconds in, he goes … ‘So, do you want to play football?’ And I was like, ‘Yeah, I’m interested.’ And he said, ‘We’re going in a different direction at quarterback’.” This gave him a big surprise, as he wasn’t there to listen to such a decision.

According to many, including former NFL player, LeSean McCoy, “Oh, (it was) absolutely disrespectful.” During a new episode of The Facility, McCoy slammed the Jets’ coach, Aaron Glenn, saying, “When I heard about it, I couldn’t believe it. When Aaron Glenn got hired, a good brother, who played in this game, that’s a brotherhood for us, right? I’m happy. I’m excited. No doubt. And I see the energy he came with. Like he comes with no bull crap, right? I’m not (gonna) tolerate no bull crap. This is who I am. I’mma be a good coach. I have a standard of what it is, and that’s it. But when you make moves like this, I don’t know, dog. I see a lot of coaches who come into this league, who try to put down an authority. And that doesn’t win players over. No, it doesn’t.

McCoy said it right. The players don’t respect a coach who just tries to flex authority. It doesn’t win locker rooms. Aaron Rodgers flew to New York on his own dime, just to have a serious conversation. Instead, after a short chat, Glenn brought in the GM and basically told Rodgers they were moving on. So, as per the ex-running back, if that was the plan, you could’ve just called or Zoomed. Why make a man travel across the country to disrespect him face-to-face?

With this, he even compared it to the difference between Andy Reid and Chip Kelly. He said, one (Reid) earned respect, the other (Kelly) lost the locker room trying to force control (during his Eagles time). So, McCoy made it clear – Treating Rodgers that way wasn’t just disrespect. It was a violation. And if that’s how Glenn plans to handle players, it’s gonna be a rough road ahead, because contract scenes are coming too. This was even felt by Rodgers’ ex-teammate, who ended up giving a warning to the Jets and their head coach.

What’s your perspective on:

Did Aaron Glenn's handling of Rodgers show leadership or just plain disrespect? What's your take?

Aaron Glenn is in trouble after showing disrespect to Aaron Rodgers?

On the same episode of The Facility, before LeSean McCoy gave his take, James Jones had already backed up the same feeling. He made it clear – his friend Aaron Rodgers was betrayed and disrespected. James didn’t care if Rodgers showed up on a private jet or a regular flight. What mattered was that Rodgers made the effort to be there and still got treated like he didn’t matter.

Jones quipped, “This is disrespectful. I agree with Aaron Rodgers. If this is how you felt, you should have just told me that on the phone, big dawg. But this is disrespectful.” He didn’t stop there. He even warned coach Aaron Glenn and the entire Jets, saying, “If you have this mindset going in to be a head coach, and it’s ‘your way or the my way’ or ‘it’s my team, don’t say nothing this and that’, you not gonna last long with the boys in that locker room, man. This is not going to last long.”

Adding further, James claimed, “This is the NFL. I have seen this. A coach will lose a locker room quickly, treating his superstar players like this, not listening to his players, because right now, all we see or hear out of there is: this is my team, my way. And that ain’t necessarily going to work in the National Football League like that.

Coming to a new team, just to have a short, cold conversation? No wonder Rodgers is still sitting back, not rushing into anything. Honestly, who could blame him?
