Is Aaron Rodgers' age finally catching up with him, leading to the Jets' dismal season?

The New York Jets are in some serious trouble right now. After week 7, the team is currently 2-5, with four back-to-back losses in the last four weeks. They fired their coach Robert Saleh and promoted Jeff Ulbrich as interim coach. Also, signed Davante Adams from the Las Vegas Raiders, but still nothing. The team is still in the same space. Now a veteran is pointing at Aaron Rodgers, blaming him for the team’s uninspiring situation this season.

One such person is ex-Jets offensive guard Damien Woody, who blamed A-Rod’s mundane form so far this season as key behind the team’s recent downfall. In the recent episode of ‘The Rich Eisen Show, the 2x Super Bowl winner dished out his take on Rodgers’ performance this season, mentioning that the veteran QB looks “old and compromised”. He added that the 40-year-old had a lackluster performance throughout this season. This is one of the main reasons behind his team’s 2-5 state. Woody said, “If you look at Aaron’s orders this year, it’s the turnovers. He has a bunch of turnovers, we’ve seen Aaron Rogers in years past where he’s had three interceptions throughout the season. He has like six in two games.”

Woody didn’t stop there.  He added, “That’s not Aaron Rodgers that we’ve been accustomed to seeing play football. They can’t run the ball, they can’t stop the run on defense and your quarterback is playing nowhere near the level that we’ve been accustomed to seeing him playing throughout his career so when you have all those things going on you find yourself at 2-5”.

Woody’s point is valid. Since the start of the season, Rodgers has completed 158 of 256 passes, with 10 TDs and 7 interceptions for 1,663 yards. Many assumed that getting his guy from his Packers time, Adams back by his side would help him get back on form. But it didn’t seem to be the case against the Steelers on Sunday when they lost 37-15 to Pittsburgh. In that game, Rodgers had a 61.5% pass completion rate with 1 TD and 2 interceptions for just 276 yards.

The Jets are surely concerned with their form right now. As they enter the second half of this regular season, they surely need to find a way to end their QB’s struggle. Not just that. They need to help him get back in shape. That would help him lead the team back to the winning ways. They are set to face the Patriots on Sunday. It was against the Pats that the team had won their last game, almost a month back. Jeff Ulbrich would urge the players to give their all and repeat week 3’s success with another show of strength.

Rodgers takes the blame for the humiliating loss

Jets’ QB Aaron Rodgers has blamed himself following their fourth consecutive loss against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday. Although New York was leading 15-13 in the first half, the match turned into one-way traffic in the second half as the Steelers scored 24-0, exposing the Jets’ vulnerability both offensively and defensively and leaving no chance for a possible bounce-back.

Have an interesting take?

In the post-game interview, Rodgers mentioned that the team needs to turn its play and that begins with him. He said, “I gotta play better”. Looking back at the team’s last four losses, the 40-year-old QB added that each of those was different, but the team needs to “figure it out”. The 4x NFL MVP further added, “We’ve got to somehow keep the belief in the locker room and start a run. You can’t win 10 in a row unless you’ve won the first one.”

Well to be honest it would be unfair to just blame Aaron Rodgers for their offensive woes on Sunday. During the third quarter, the veteran QB found WR Garrett Wilson open and passed him. However, the pass bounced off his hands. It chested and went straight to Steelers’ CB Beanie Bishop Jr., marking the second interception of the day.

Rodgers and Co. have nine games remaining in the regular season. Standing at a “now-or-never”  moment, the team needs to find a way back into the winning ways. We need to see if they can navigate their way through these tough times. Will they get back up starting next week? Or will the record further move up to 2-6? Only time will tell.
