“It takes time to heal!” So, the Chicago Bears are trying to forget the unforgettable season of their 5 wins and 12 losses. Hence, to start off, the franchise made sure to part ways with Matt Eberflus. With that, he became the first HC to be fired during the season in the team’s history. Nevertheless, now after an extensive coaching hunt, Caleb Williams’s team has landed Ben Johnson to turn the tables in the next season.
Now, as soon as Ben Johnson has arrived at the arena, he is shaking up the coaching staff. In the offensive coach category, the HC might look for someone who can resonate with his ideologies, as he was the OC with the Lions. So, it’s Johnson’s category, and he knows it well. But what about the defensive coach? Well, former NFLer Clay Harbor revealed the 38-year-old’s plan for the team’s defense.
In the Jan 23 episode of Big Pro Football Show, the former tight end discussed Ben Johnson’s defensive strategy. He expressed, “I think people need to realize how big of a decision this is. You hear Ben Johnson talk about the things he loved about Dan Campbell. The number one thing he talks about is how he was able to delegate tasks and let his lieutenants do their job.” Similarly, Harbor thinks Johnson will do with his defense.

Therefore, he further added, “Ben Johnson is not going to have any say in the defense….I don’t know, but he made a point yesterday by saying that he’s going to be involved in every phase. He will be involved, but very lightly. He is going to hand the defense over to somebody. I’d rather see somebody with experience.” And the names like Dennis Allen and Daronté Jones, either of whom the Bears are trying to get, are experienced coaches.
So, Clay Harbor believes that the newly hired head coach in Chicago will take a look at the defense after giving the role to someone responsible. However, his involvement would be much less in it. Nevertheless, Ben Johnson’s involvement with Caleb Williams will definitely be high, as he would be tearing him down this offseason.
Caleb Williams screamed after Ben Johnson’s entry!
Caleb Williams had a moment he’ll never forget while driving in Florida. His phone rang, and on the other end were Bears leaders Kevin Warren, George McCaskey, Ryan Poles, and Ted Crews. And the news they gave? – Ben Johnson is officially the new head coach of the team. Hearing this, Williams stayed calm, thanked them, and then let it all sink in. But after that, Williams had his moment. While expressing that feeling in the media, the QB said, “I gave out a loud yell and scream of just excitement. [It] brings a bunch of clarity to the offseason. It brings a bunch of different things to the offseason. And I’m really excited about obviously the Bears and being able to make this happen, and keeping Ben Johnson as our coach for a long time.”

Caleb Williams was excited to hear the news. But wait, there was more to come. Soon after the phonic conversation, another call came. And this time was to give him Ben Johnson’s real number after some hilarious prank weeks earlier by kids pretending to be the coach. Talking about the same, Williams laughed. He expressed the excitement that he showed even in those fake texts reflecting how ready he was for this. But when Ben Johnson finally called, the HC sent a selfie to confirm it was really him.
The two spoke for the first time, and their connection was instant. Williams felt Johnson’s fire and determination through the phone. They both shared the same vision: building something special in Chicago. For Williams, it’s clear – “Our career here is gonna be important. It starts with Ben. There’s a lot of people here, I get it. But it starts with Ben and the rest of the coaches that he brings along.” And so, they’re ready to lead the franchise into a new era, hoping to win the Super Bowl after 39 years.
