With Lurie's patience wearing thin, is Sirianni's coaching style the right fit for the Eagles?

The Eagles-Giants matchup is always a high-stakes, high-intensity game. With deep-rooted division rivalries, emotions run high every time these two teams face off. However, heading into this contest, the Eagles and HC Nick Sirianni are under intense scrutiny for their lackluster offensive starts in 2024, an issue that’s only fueling the fire for critics and fans alike.

NFL analyst Dan Orlovsky didn’t mince words when discussing the Eagles’ offensive struggles, especially under Nick Sirianni. “This was the least prepared football team in the NFL,” Orlovsky said bluntly.

He further called out the team’s inability to generate momentum early in games, despite the presence of star players like Jalen Hurts, A.J. Brown, and DeVonta Smith. “How do we start every game slow?” Orlovsky asked, pointing out that the Eagles’ scripted plays—designed to give the offense a head start are simply not working. The analyst highlighted their abysmal performance, referencing that the Eagles managed just 22 yards in five opening drives this season.

Orlovsky’s sharpest criticism came in his analysis of the coaching strategy. He emphasized that while finishing a game is often on the players, starting it strong is about the coaching. “How you start games is really about coaching… You’re scheming it up first,” he emphasized. With 0 points scored in the first quarter through four games, it’s clear something isn’t clicking. He questioned why, with such a talented roster, the Eagles are failing to build any early leads.

The Iggles ranked dead last in first-quarter performance and are struggling on both passing and running plays. Kellen Moore, addressing these concerns, acknowledged, “We’ve got to start faster. Simple as that.”

HC ͏Sirianni’s ͏sideline antics duri͏ng Sunday’s game did͏n’t help ͏the sit͏uation either. Two͏ team officials lab͏eled S͏irianni’͏s͏ behavior as “embarrassin͏g,” ad͏ding more t͏ension to ͏th͏e͏ mix. Joe G͏iglio ͏o͏f 94WIP reacted to M͏cLane’s podcast, questioning whether Sirianni͏’s͏ styl͏e is worth ͏it in the long run. “At the͏ end of the season, the ͏Eagles are going to ͏ask if Nic͏k Sirianni’s c͏oaching [is]͏ worth this?” Giglio said, em͏pha͏sizing that the pressure ͏is on for Sirianni to deliver results͏.

Despite a solid 37-19 regular-season record and playoff appearances in all three seasons, the Eagles have been on a downward slide. Over the last 12 games, they’ve gone 4-8, with the offense ranked just 18th in points per game (21.2) this season. If this trend continues, the once-promising era under Sirianni could face serious questions. As Giglio put it, “If they sputter out here and go 8-9, he’s not worth it.” The clock is ticking for the Eagles to turn things around before Lurie’s patience runs out.
