To say NFL 2024 has been a whirlwind for Dallas Cowboys’ would be an understatement. Despite a promising start, the team is struggling with inconsistency and a 3-7 record threatening their playoff hopes. The team’s playoff hopes are hanging by a thread and speculations around a head coach change are already brewing. Rumors of Deion Sanders, a former Cowboy, taking over as head coach started brewing after an ex-NFL player hinted at his potential return. Now, another ex-NFLer is showing his support for the idea and everyone is curious about Coach Prime’s possible move to Dallas.
On Nov 22 episode of The Herd with Colin Cowherd, LeSean McCoy supported Deion Sanders as the perfect fit for the Cowboys. “I’ll buy it,” remarked McCoy while emphasizing how transformative Sanders’ leadership is. He also pointed out the obvious, Sanders’ coaching brilliance with struggling programs like Colorado Buffaloes and Jackson State. Cowherd also chimed in, agreeing with the ex-NFLer’s remarks. Deion’s biggest selling points are his ‘enigmatic personality‘ and ‘charisma‘, a big inspiration for NFL players, and can help them grow far beyond the playing field.
Coach Prime’s reputation as a game-changer isn’t just hype. The coach led the Tigers at Jackson State to a 27-6 record, and two SWAC championships. During his stint in Colorado, he mentored a one-win team and brought them national attention, starting at 3-0 in 2023. His mentorship elevated the team’s performance and took them to new heights. Sanders’ formula is easy – build a family-first culture, attract top talent, and change the definition of success for the teams.

McCoy believes Sanders will be able to bring a transformation to the Cowboys’ performance. He can bring a fresh wave of innovation, accountability, and spark to the team. For Coach Prime, it’s not about the team; he connects with the players, staff, and fans on a similar scale. Inspiration coming from him is not just limited to young players, a lot of seasoned players also look up to him and the energy he brings to a room. For the Cowboys, this energy will not bring a change to the locker room but the entire franchise and hopefully make them a Super Bowl contender next season.
Deion Sanders to Dallas? Here’s what the Cowboys think
While everyone seems to share the same enthusiasm on this idea, what do the Cowboys have to say? Well, coming from the front office, team owner Jerry Jones dismissed the rumors without denying the possibility outright. In an interview with 105.3 The Fan, he appreciated Deion’s contributions as a player, calling him ‘one of the best we’ve ever had.’ But he also mentioned that McCarthy will remain the head coach (at least for now).

However, Jones’ comments haven’t done much or put a stop to these speculations. Another ex-Cowboy, Michael Irvin’s remarks has only added more fuel to the fire. While he was on SPEAK, Michael remarked how Coach Prime’s excellent leadership qualities and connection to the franchise make him the ‘ideal‘ fit. There is also a stipulation that Irvin mentions behind Sanders’ joining the squad.
Irvin believes Deion would accept the Cowboys’ shift if they draft Shedeur Sanders. “100%. And I can tell you, good sources have told me that. Great sources have told me that.” Whether Jerry Jones makes the big move or not, the buzz certainly isn’t going away anytime soon.
What’s your perspective on:
Could Deion Sanders be the game-changer the Cowboys need to revive their Super Bowl dreams?
