Does Jerry Jones need to wake up and pay CeeDee Lamb to save the Cowboys' season?

Dallas Cowboys owner & GM, Jerry Jones, is making headlines for his stubbornness to not renew the contracts of key players. After multiple talks with QB Dak Prescott and WR CeeDee Lamb, the result is zero. The QB has joined the team and will play for them. The WR isn’t budging until he gets what he wants. With the season beginning in less than a month, Jones’ recent comments about the WR disappointed the fans.

A few days back, Jones said that he was in no urgency to renew Lamb’s contract. Though the wide receiver isn’t saying anything publicly, he mocked GM by replying ‘lol‘. Both are playing a game. When analysts started questioning Jones about this, he clarified the urgency was not in the preseason as the WR wouldn’t be playing in preseason games. Giving a sneak peek into his mentality, he mentioned, “Well, CeeDee, you’re missed. But you’re not missed out here competing and it doesn’t put any pressure any place on us.” But the worries are growing for America’s team.

Retired QB Dan Orlovsky didn’t mince his words while discussing the team’s future. Speaking on ESPN’s Get Up show on the 12th of August, he doubted WR’s entry into the team for the upcoming season. He stated that Lamb missed training camp (due to Jones’ shrewd tactics) and that consequences for the Cowboys could be severe. The QB added, “When these premier athletes miss time in training camp, usually there’s something attached to either their performance or health that isn’t on par with the expectations.” Emphasizing the absence of Lamb, the Cowboys are forced to play with inexperienced/rookie WRs and the team could go downhill pretty fast if the situation continues. He later backed his talk with stats.

While tweeting on the video, he mentioned that the WR was 1st in 2023 with 181 targets and 135 catches and 5th with 596 routes run. Doubling down on his statement, he wrote, “How can we expect that same volume/production without being in game shape?” The analyst’s statement reflects the reality of the situation. No one has seen him train with the team in recent times.

Cowboys’s preseason loss against Rams didn’t faze Jerry Jones

Dallas Cowboys lost their preseason game against the Los Angeles Rams by only 1 point with a score of 13-12. While the defense looked good with 5 interceptions, the offense took another hit. Offensive guard Chuma Edoga suffered a foot injury, which has put him out of action for many days. However, they weren’t happy with the performance of QB Trey Lance. The loss disappointed the fans.

With such gaps in the team combination, the responsibility falls on Prescott. He would have liked it better if Lamb were with him. Emphasizing the WR’s importance, he said that he and the WR will only take a couple of practice sessions to get in rhythm and mentioned, “I know y’all want to ask, I got urgency for it to happen.” The preseason loss is a gentle reminder to Jerry Jones to get serious and bring him back to the fold.

However, Jerry, being the shrewd negotiator he is, he is still taking one day at a time. America’s Team will struggle in the coming season without their number 88. Cowboys play their first game against Cleveland Browns on September 9. Can he instill confidence in his locker room in less than 30 days? He needs to think big and think fast.
