This season hasn’t been the one for the Chicago Bears. After week 11, they are at the bottom of the AFC North with a 4-5 record. Nothing seems to be working for them and their playoff dreams are all but gone. Former NFL GM Michael Lombardi recently went ballistic on the team’s owner and GM for the Bears’ lackluster performance this season.
In the recent episode of the podcast “GM SHUFFLE”, Lombardi questioned the team’s decision not to hire Jim Harbaugh when they had a chance he could have played a key role in shaping the team for the future. He further added that in case they would have brought back Harbaugh, the 60-year-old manager might have gone for now-Commanders rookie QB Jaden Daniels instead of Caleb Williams who has been pretty disappointing so far this season. He said, “If you’re Kevin Warren part of the job is to see the future. You had a chance to hire Jim Harbaugh and bring him back to Chicago. He would have helped you pick the quarter, maybe he would have picked Jaden Daniels and said I want Daniels”.
Let’s all agree to this one thing, truly Daniel has been a much better performer this season than the Bears’ star. Willams has 178 of 284 with 9 TDs and 5 interceptions for 1785 yards, while the Commanders’ blue-eyed boy is 202 of 254 with 10 TDs and 3 interceptions for 2338 yards.

The ex-NFL GM further went on to criticize Ryan Poles for not putting up a plan of how to develop a young rookie QB like Williams. Lombardi added that it’s a GM’s job to “plan how the team is going to develop the player, what the program for this player is and how are we going to make him better who’s coaching this guy”.
Although they started with a win, Willams’ lack of productivity in the Bears’ offense has surely affected the team’s run apart from their leaky defense which has led to them losing games with a huge margin of points. The most recent example of it came last Sunday in the form of a 19-3 loss against the New England Patriots. Who knows, maybe if they went and signed the current LA Chargers manager, the Bears would have invested in other stars and things would have been different than what they stand today.
But now standing at the halfway point of this season, there is no way to tell that with certainty. Although there’s little to no hope for them to play at the playoffs in January, the Bears need to find a way to charge up the team’s HC Matthew Eberflus and get Caleb William’s performance back on track before their game against the Green Bay Packers next Sunday at the Soldier Fields stadium.
Will the Bears find their way back into the winning tracks and end their regular season on positive notes? Or will the team’s downfall continue even further? Only time can tell.

NFL Insider reveals important Caleb William plans Bears internally discussed amid QB’s Rookie-Year struggle
According to NFL Insider Adam Schefter Caleb William’s possible benching was discussed internally amongst the team following their three-game losing streak. However, as per the Insider, the intention of the proposed benching was not based on his underperformance this season but was due to the lack of rest as he has now been a part of the 11 games for his side.
Talking about this discussion, Schefter said, “There were conversations. I don’t know how close they got, but yes, there were conversations about whether one of the solutions was to bench the quarterback. But to bench him to give him a break, to try and save him.”

Even after such alleged discussions, the 22-year-old QB starting is still quite understandable as the Bears have shown complete trust in Williams from day one and have backed him after all his disappointing starts. The young QB mentioned this himself this week after there were rumors that a few of the team’s veterans had requested the Bears’ hierarchy to give backup QB Tyson Bagent a chance to start.
Lauding his teammates’ support towards him, Willams said he received texts or calls from his teammates or people who came up to him and said, “We got your back, we’re with you, Let’s go”. For him, this kind of mindset has always been a constant in the Bears dressing room.
