The Philadelphia Eagles won their Week 9 game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Now this is obviously a positive update for the team and their fans. But what came with it wasn’t expected by the Eagles, especially by their head coach, Nick Sirianni.
During the game, multiple mistakes such as 4th down calls and 2-point conversions by head coach Nick Sirianni led the critics and fans to demand termination for him. Even former Eagles linebacker Emmanuel Acho was left “confused by Nick Sirianni’s approach.”
Acho, on his official X account, further expressed, “You don’t kick the 42-yard field goal, nor do you tush push on 4th and 1, instead you roll out Hurts & get no points. Then you ask your kicker to hit a 57-yard FG, in the cold, to make up for points you left on the board earlier (unimpressed emoji).” His frustrations seem to be real.

I’m confused by Nick Sirianni’s approach.

So what happened was during the game, Nick Sirianni made several bold, controversial calls instead of taking safer points. He chose to go for it on fourth down twice and also attempted a two-point conversion. Later, all of them turned out to be unsuccessful. This resulted in the Eagles nation ripping Sirianni and his decisions, even asking the team to fire the coach.
Nevertheless, on the other hand, it seems Nick Sirianni doesn’t care much about the criticisms as he arguably might believe that what he did was a brave act.

In a high-stakes game, Eagles coach Nick Sirianni rolled the dice and lost. After going on fourth down twice and three 2-point conversions, Sirianni made another mistake. With 2:16 left and the Eagles clinging to a 28-23 lead, Sirianni made the call to let Jake Elliott kick a challenging 57-yard field goal instead of pinning Jacksonville deep. The result? Elliott missed.

In addition to that, when they were up 22-16, just a field goal away from a nine-point lead, Sirianni wanted more. He kept the offense out there on fourth-and-1- 1. QB Jalen Hurts snapped the ball and searched for an open receiver. However, it resulted in nothing. Turnover happened and the Jaguars had a chance to steal the game. This play led the stadium to roar with boos. But that’s not where the story ends. Earlier in the game, it was the same story.
Twice, Nick Sirianni passed up easy field goals. Twice, they failed on fourth down. Then, after three touchdowns, he went for two-point conversions – All were missed. Seeing all these, fans just couldn’t believe it. They were furious, frustrated, and ready to question every call. However, the team’s saviors came in the form of DeVonta Smith and Nakobe Dean, whose late score and an interception respectively saved the head coach from a crushing loss.

However, if you ask Nick Sirianni about these perplexed decisions on the field on Sunday’s game against the Jaguars, he will probably appear carefree. Later in a post-game presser, Sirianni said, “I have to be able to have the b–lls to do that.” Sirianni, as earlier mentioned, thinks what he is doing is right for the team. Indeed, his choices were bold, but they left everyone on edge.
