It seems Jerry Jones is unable to stay out of the media for some time. After arguably threatening the radio hosts last week, the Dallas Cowboys owner has now taken a jab at their coach, Mike McCarthy.

In his weekly radio appearance on 105.3 The Fan, Jerry Jones slammed the team’s performance as well as that of McCarthy. He said, “We’re designing bad plays. Or we’re designing bad concepts. The facts are there’s some of that but there’s also some of execution.” Well, passing on such remarks about his team, and subtly throwing the coach under the bus, tells the increasing frustration level of Jones. Sitting at 3-3, this is not what the owner wished to see the outcomes from his all-in team.

Anyway, these remarks, as posted by Cowboys insider Clarence Hill Jr, were seen by former All-Pro wide receiver Dez Bryant on X. Hence, he decided to share his stance on the ongoing scenario, turning the blame to the Cowboys owner, Jerry Jones. Sharing his opinion on his official X account, he said, “Should have kept Dan Quinn and made him the head coach. These old ways are no longer in style for this new age of football.

With these statements, Bryant probably meant that Jerry Jones should have fired coach McCarthy after last year’s playoff disappointment. For replacing him, he should have gone to Dan Quinn, promoting him to the head coach from his DC role. But that didn’t happen. In the process of building his all-in team, Jones hired Mike Zimmer for the DC role, replacing the 54-year-old Quinn.

Nevertheless, now Quinn is with the Commanders as their head coach. He is leading his team to sit on the top of the NFC East with 5-2. But there might be a different side to the story if we look at what Jones earlier said about Quinn, McCarthy, and the coaching situation of the team in 2022.

Dan Quinn rejected the HC role?

Since the start, Jerry Jones has been stating that Mike McCarthy’s coaching role was never at risk. This happened in 2022 as well. The reporters then asked him about the speculations of his choosing between McCarthy and Dan Quinn. And if the ex-DC will remain on the team or not. Hence, clearing the air on a radio show, Jones said, “The idea of Mike twisting in the wind wasn’t the case at all. We were trying to keep Dan Quinn and maintain continuity on the coaching staff.” But that’s not all!

Jones didn’t stop there. He continued revealing that it was Quinn who turned down a head-coaching opportunity from other teams to remain with the Cowboys. And hence, he signed an extension with the team. Nevertheless, now Quinn is at the Commanders as HC. If we closely look at these previous comments of Jones, it’s quite possible that the former DC wanted a head coach job in the America’s team in future. But the owner overlooked the wish. He went for Mike McCarthy, who earlier led the team to win two NFC East titles.

And now fast forward to the present. Despite believing McCarthy time and time again, owner Jerry Jones now appears frustrated with the continuous results.
