Is Aaron Rodgers really the leader the Jets need to break their Super Bowl curse?

Aaron Rodgers is supposed to be the Jets’ savior. But is he the hero they need or the villain they fear? In a recent tweet dropped by ESPN Radio, former Cowboys star Chris Canty painted Rodgers as a legit ticking time bomb—a guy who thrives on chaos rather than creating order.

“Remember when Aaron Rodgers said all the crap that doesn’t have anything to do with winning?” asked the ex-defensive lineman. “So to expect Rodgers to pour cold water on the fire is being incredibly naive. This is the guy that’s gonna get the gas and put it on fire so it gets bigger.” Canty’s take? A-Rod’s drama-filled past and questionable leadership might just make him a liability for the Jets.

Sports commentator and ESPN Radio’s co-host, Chris Carlin, didn’t hold back either. Carlin highlighted that the New York team might just crumble under Rodgers’ explosive personality. “The Jets feel like the NFL version of Jenga. You’re gonna pull out the wrong little piece here and it’s all gonna fall apart.”

It ain’t just Canty and Carlin who are raising red flags. Former Bucs’ QB Shaun King slammed the four-time MVP as the “most selfish QB of his generation,” criticizing his absence from the Jets’ minicamp. Analysts like Chris Broussard and Nick Wright also got in on the action, ripping A-Rod for skipping OTAs.

Julian Edelman, who’s seen Tom Brady’s leadership up close, also jumped in. Edelman pointed out that even though Brady missed a few OTAs in his 23rd season, he never skipped a mandatory minicamp. That’s dedication, and it highlights how vital consistent leadership is.

So here’s the big question: With all this heat, can Rodgers still steer the Jets to Super Bowl glory?

Can Aaron Rodgers’ Jets win Super Bowl? An analysis

What’s your perspective on:

Is Aaron Rodgers really the leader the Jets need to break their Super Bowl curse?

Have an interesting take?

Forget the hype about A-Rod’s Achilles comeback—there’s more to the NYJ team’s Super Bowl hopes than just the star QB.

First up, let’s talk defense. Despite a not-so-great offense last season, New York still managed to snag seven wins, thanks to HC Robert Saleh and DC Jeff Ulbrich. Back in his Niners days, Saleh took the Jets’ D from rock bottom in 2021 to top of the charts in 2022 and 2023 (4th and 3rd, respectively). With stars like C.J. Mosley, Sauce Gardner, and Quinnen Williams leading the charge, this defense is every franchise’s fantasy.

On the offensive side of the ball, Rodgers’ team has made great strides. Breece Hall, recovering from an ACL injury, looks like a superstar running back, and Garrett Wilson is a budding WR1. The wide receiver room is also upgraded with the addition of Mike Williams and Malachi Corley. This beefed-up offensive line could offer just the protection their franchise QB would need.

With these sorted moves, the Jets aren’t just dreaming—they’re gunning for that Super Bowl.
