You may be aware of what’s happening in the Dallas Cowboys. The season has been worst for the franchise as the four-time Super Bowl-winning team’s every piece has been trickling down. One of the important pieces in the structure of the current squad is their HC: Mike McCarthy. His five-year tenure with the franchise is ending after this season and the question of his continuation is looming. Though the GM Jerry Jones has been making puzzling statements on McCarthy’s tenure extension, the former Cowboys DT has something important to say about the ‘HC tenure extension’ issue.

The former Cowboys DT Chris Canty appeared on ‘Unsportsmanlike‘ recently and shared a view on McCarthy’s future career, which would be worth knowing. Chris Canty fielded a question about which coach would return next year after the Cowboys-Bengals game: Zac Taylor or McCarthy? Canty directly responded, expressing his doubts about Mike McCarthy and stating that last night’s events had shaken his confidence in the coach.

He continued the analysis on how should Jerry Jones respond to it. Talking about the last ‘punt block and muff‘ thing, Chris said, “Jerry Jones came out in question – why would I reward it if the punt block is on and what to do subsequently the punt block was actually successful?” Canty called the whole situation after the successful punt block, “bad luck.”

His critical synthesis on HC after the loss to the Bengals was also with respect to Cowboys special team coach Fassel. Canty further emphasised that Fassel and McCarthy must have trained the team on how should they handle such tricky situations of block and muff. Canty concluded with: “they [the Cowboys] were far from the mark.”

So, the worst thing was when the Cowboys blocked the punt but lost the pigskin to the opponents. And it eventually led to the Cowboys’ loss. Critics directly tie the head coach to the entire situation. As Mike’s career is up in the air, he must have made sure to win the game as they are ranking 3rd in the division with a record of 5-8. That’s why the head coach is receiving backlash. But there is one exception when the question of criticism for McCarthy comes in – Jerry Jones

Jerry Jones backs HC and his tenure extension

Yeah, Jerry supports his HC and is not thinking about his HC’s tenure extension. At the end of November, the Cowboys GM appeared on ‘105.3 TheFan’ podcast and tackled the question very well, without giving a clear shot: “Mike McCarthy is one outstanding coach… this is a Super Bowl-winning coach. Mike McCarthy has been there, and done that. He’s got great ideas.” The 82-year-old also discussed, “So, bottom line is, in no place, in my body language or anything else, have you seen indications about what we’re going to be doing relative to this staff at the end of this year. And we shouldn’t.” It’s not just Jerry Jones who is all-in on HC, but QB Dak Prescott also wants the HC to be part of his team.

What’s your perspective on:

Is Jerry Jones right to back McCarthy, or is it time for a fresh start in Dallas?

Have an interesting take?

Yeah, you heard that right! When Prescott was asked about the head coach’s extension tenure, he said, “Your coach seems like he’s playing on his last contract and [I’m] almost feeling helpless like I can’t help him in this situation, especially a guy you believe in so much and you believe in being your head coach.” Lastly, Dak delivered support to the coach, saying, “Control what I can control, help and support Mike to every extent that I can.”

Apart from the QB, Micah Parsons also supports his coach. He stated that Mike had no control over things like injuries to the important players and how the coach’s season was not a good opportunity to prove himself. But it’s a matter of fact that the Cowboys have not shown any major victory this year for a single time.
