It was an absolute stunner as the NFL Network’s top 100 players list crowned a non-QB king for the first time since 2019. And it was none other than the Cheetah himself, Tyreek Hill. Well, his speed is commendable on the leaderboard too, as Hill blazed past the Chiefs‘ maestro, Patrick Mahomes, leaving him at number 4. But it seems like the Dolphins’ WR couldn’t escape the critics even with his explosive speed, as the ex-DL shares his thoughts on the top 100 list.

Chris Canty couldn’t hold back in the UnSportsESPN show when he was asked whether the list should’ve started with Mahomes or not. “Yes! Every list when it comes to the top NFL players should start with the number 15 of Kansas City.

In addition, the ex-DL justified that the best player should be the one with the most number of championships: “The guy that’s the best player is the one that has won championships, the guy that got back to back. He is the best player in the league.” It seems like Canty wasn’t wrong since it’s Patrick Mahomes, whose fingers still shine with the elegance of three Super Bowl rings.

And what was more surprising for Chris? The Dolphins weren’t even at their best in the 2023 season, as they were only 10-1 against teams without good winning records and 1-6 against winning teams. Even though Tyreek reached his 1800-yard mark, the Dolphins only managed to win one game against a team with good winning records, the Cowboys. But that too came on a field goal as time expired. With everything under his nose, Canty further said that the list should be “100 to Mahomes.” And why so?

Well, Patrick’s 2023 season was full of challenges with his receiving corps, and he thus threw more interceptions than usual. But he still managed to lead the Chiefs to grab the ultimate prize, the Lombardi Trophy. With much higher performance stakes in the playoffs (6:1 TD-to-interception ratio and 69.8% pass completion rate), Patrick Mahomes seems to undoubtedly be Canty’s top player. But it looks like the fans weren’t on the same page.

With Tyreek Hill now under the scrutinizing eyes of former NFL stars, is his connection with the Dolphins going to be affected? Well, the connection seemed to have been restored.

Even though initially he was in limbo of his contract with the Fins, Hill expressed his interest in being a team player as he sidelined his goal of reaching the 2000-yard mark: “Going after 2,000 yards would be really great and exciting. But at the same time, I personally believe I need to understand I am one of the leaders and my position is crucial for the team. I had the time to look at it and talk about it with my family. I feel being a leader, if I just single out a personal goal like that; that is very selfish of me.”

Apart from this, Tyreek has undergone stem-cell therapy to maintain his athleticism in his 30s. It seems like the Cheetah was getting ready for the showdown while the Dolphins kept him waiting. And at last, Hill finally got his much-awaited contract boost from the Dolphins.

Hill’s restructured contract with the Fins guaranteed him a massive increment from $19,665,000 to $65 million. While standing in the fourth position on the top-paid WR’s list, Hill was determined to give his best for Miami, “I promise to give you my all this year.” It looks like Tyreek got what he wanted, and the Dolphins are going to release an explosive Cheetah on August 10 against the Falcons.
