With only three weeks of NFL action being played, the Cowboys are already staring down the barrel for positives. Their week 1 win in Cleveland 33-17 already looks like a distant memory. After America’s team lost two consecutive games in Dallas, questions are being raised about their ability to qualify for playoffs.

One of those people criticizing the Cowboys is their ex-defensive end Marcus Spears, on GetUp ESPN, “I am not convinced Dallas really wants to win. And that’s horror to me ’cause I am a fan of Dallas…” But why does Spears feel the Cowboys aren’t looking toward winning this season? Well, offering more context behind his reasoning, Spears added, “There is no way you can look at the landscape of the NFL over the last 2-3 years and think that you’ll be in position with your work in free agency to put yourselves over the top.”

When Jones came out saying he was “all in” at the start of this offseason, most fans thought the Cowboys owner would make major improvements in their roster. But it wasn’t forthcoming as the Cowboys didn’t add a single notable free-agency while their defense looks in shambles three games into the regular season.

With defensive tackle Christian Wilkins available in free agency, the Cowboys opted for Carlos Watkins, who was picked off from Commanders practice squad. Elsewhere, they decided not to pursue Ravens RB Derrick Henry and instead brought back Ezekiel Elliott into the roster.

Although Jones has since opened up about the Cowboys not being able to afford Henry. He has been a revelation in Baltimore after the 30-year-old racked up two touchdowns and 151 rushing yards last week. Even Dalvin Cook, who was added to the squad, is busy playing in the practice squads. With Mike McCarthy yet to be convinced about the 29-year-old ability to save the Cowboys running back department.

But Jones has remained optimistic about the Cowboys season, “We’ve got a long way to go here for the season. More importantly, we’re trying to put a team together that can be there when we’re back out here after Christmas.” However, since those comments after their first loss of the season, the Cowboys owner ended up accepting the blame when they lost at home to the Ravens.

Jerry Jones accepts responsibility after the Cowboys succumb to a 1-2 start

A recently conducted poll by a local Dallas news station showed that 78% of fans blamed Jerry Jones for the Cowboys’ unconvincing start to the season. Sharing his thoughts on the same, Jones expressed, “It’s well-known that most decisions are ultimately made there. I either have to acquiesce or approve it. That’s very fair. How could you think otherwise?”

While accepting the responsibility, the Cowboys GM further added, “Whether it be who is out there coaching. Whether it be who is out there playing. Whether it be the stadium you’re walking into, whatever it is here, that’s the way it is.” Well, the votes that made Jones the culprit behind the Cowboys’ dismal start to their season. It placed 12% votes for the defense, coaching got 6%, while the offense received 4%. But among all those, the Cowboys’ defense has struggled mightily, considering the three games they have played.

Securing a 28th rank in the league for the total defense at 372.7 yards per game. They have given up 185.7 yards per game within those first three match-ups. Even their offense is nowhere near being praised, having racked up only 73.7 yards per game in rushing. But will they be able to improve upon those glaring holes within their roster? Or will it be the same picture as other seasons where they fail to live up to their expectations?
