Is Antonio Brown right in calling out Baker Mayfield, or is he just stirring the pot?

Antonio Brown, never one to shy away from stirring the pot, aimed at his former team following their gut-wrenching 36-30 overtime loss to the Atlanta Falcons.

“I hope the last leg of my parlay doesn’t f—ck me,” reads the meme posted by Antonio Brown on X post-game. The image? None other than Sean “Diddy” Combs, looking as if he’s just been caught with his hand in the cookie jar. Talk about a double whammy of controversy!

The ex-Buccaneer wide receiver’s post hit like a perfectly timed route, striking just as Tampa Bay fans were licking their wounds from a game that slipped through their fingers faster than a greased pigskin.

Let’s rewind the game tape, shall we? The Bucs, led by Baker Mayfield, put up a valiant effort. Mayfield tossed three touchdowns in the first half alone – a feat he hadn’t achieved since 2020. Mike Evans snagged two of those, including the 100th touchdown of his illustrious career. For a moment, it seemed like the Bucs might just pull off a win that would cement their spot atop the NFC South.

But as an old phrase has it, it ain’t over ’til it’s over. And golly, did this game spell that out? The Bucs D wilted, giving up the tying TD late in the fourth as Cousins went Air Raid on them. Cousins more like a magician than anything else conjured up a drive that would allow him in the last minute that set up Younghoe Koo’s game-tying 52-yard field goal.

Then came overtime. One play, 45 yards, game over. Cousins to KhaDarel Hodge, and just like that, the Falcons snatched victory from the jaws of defeat. It was the kind of loss that leaves fans reaching for the nearest pillow to scream into. And into this cauldron of emotions, Antonio Brown decided to add his special blend of spice.

The Bucs’ ongoing struggles

Brown’s jab at his former team isn’t just a random potshot. It’s a symptom of a larger issue plaguing the Buccaneers since Tom Brady hung up his cleats. The team that once struck fear into the hearts of opponents now seems to be struggling to find its identity.

This loss to the Falcons is just the latest chapter in what’s becoming an increasingly frustrating story for Bucs fans. Despite flashes of brilliance – like Rachaad White’s career-long 56-yard run or Tavierre Thomas’s clutch field goal block – the team can’t seem to put together a complete game.

Injuries haven’t helped their cause either. The Bucs entered this game already hobbled, missing key players like Antoine Winfield Jr. and Calijah Kancey. By the final whistle, they’d added Kameron Johnson, Tykee Smith, Lavonte David, Jordan Whitehead, and YaYa Diaby to their growing list of wounded warriors.

However, the most pressing issue may well be the inconsistency at quarterback. Baker Mayfield displayed flashes of his potential with three first-half touchdowns. But when push came to shove, he just couldn’t keep up that energy and determination. The offense sputtered in the second half, coming away with only two field goals just when touchdowns were most needed.

As the dust settles on this overtime heartbreaker, Bucs fans are left to ponder: Is Baker Mayfield the answer? Or is he just another question mark in Tampa Bay’s dubious tradition of treating its quarterbacks like socks, worn once and thrown away? One thing is certain: if the Bucs do not soon get their act together, they may be on the business end of more celebrity memes than high school dances.
