Everyone wants some Jerry Jones drama, but sadly, for the first time in many years, you won’t get any. At least from the traditional NFL Combine bus interview. All Cowboys Nation has ever wanted is for Jerry to stop meddling in the team’s business [technically his business]. Well, now that he might actually be granting their wish, people can’t help but speculate what is up with Mr. Jones. The last time the 82-year-old appeared before the media was when he introduced his new HC, Brian Schottenheimer. Now, at the ongoing NFL Combine, Jerry has maintained a distance from the media. And that is not so Jerry Jones’ style – he and media headlines go hand in hand. So, what is up with the Cowboys owner?

Well, that’s the question everyone has been asking. This is the first time Jerry is not making any headlines at the Scouting Combine. For most of the past years, it has always been more about him than the players on his team. This year, Jerry’s eldest son, Stephen Jones, along with HC Schottenheimer, has made all the media appearances at the NFL Combine. And recently, as per The Athletic‘s Jon Machota, Mr. Jones also missed “his annual Scouting Combine bus visit with reporters.“

The official line is that it’s because Jerry has other team meetings that need his attention. What are those meetings that forced the Cowboys’ heart and soul to break their annual tradition? After the 82-year-old missed his usual tradition, David Moore of The Dallas Morning News reported, “Jones was tentatively scheduled to meet with the media Friday afternoon after his arrival at the combine. But a club spokesperson said the Cowboys owner had a conflict with other commitments and meetings that had been scheduled.”

Moore also reported that Jerry “will be available for the team’s offseason approach next week.” So maybe it really is the tight schedule. After all, Jerry has got an entire NFL team to look after. All on his own (even if by choice).

Mr. Jones can stay away from the spotlight, but the spotlight will never be off him. The Cowboys owner stayed away from media appearances at this NFL Combine, and the cameras went crazy searching for him. After all, he is the owner and GM of America’s Team, the world’s most valuable sports franchise. The internet got buzzing about his whereabouts, and everyone has their theories now. Well, the NFL can’t go a week without giving birth to a few conspiracy theories. And now that the Chiefs and refs saga is over, it’s time for a new one. Netizens are making all kinds of wild assumptions.

Some feel he is not doing well health-wise. “I don’t think he’s feeling well…He doesn’t look well, gave Stephen Co-Owner title and canceled his bus gaggle with reporters… Somethings up, we don’t know yet but like Jerry says, I think we need some more leaves to drop before we find out whats really going on…,” pondered a user on X. And others are hoping he will let the Cowboys do the talking on the gridiron this time instead of him with the mic. “About time he did. Maybe now he’ll let his team do the talking on the field. Instead of the media,” one commented. 

Another user chimed in, pointing out how he always keeps his nose in the team’s business and must be tired of doing that now. “He has to be tired of meddling. At his age, he has got to be tired of this game. Probably going into a more deferential mode with people he trusts.”
