Erin Andrews never shies away from sending good wishes to her mentor. Recently, Fox Sports reporter Andrews bid goodbye to her former University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications director.
Taking to her official Instagram account, the NFL reporter sent heartfelt wishes on Steve Russell’s retirement. Along with re-sharing the ESPN Gainesville post on her IG story, Erin Andrews congratulated the Gainesville sports media legend. “Steve Russell was my college sports director at @UFJschool. This is awesome. Congrats Steve!!!” she mentioned in her story caption. It showcased Andrews’ deep regard for her college director.
Originally, ESPN Gainesville confirmed the sports director’s retirement through an IG post. Along with sharing the emotional video clip, they mentioned a sentimental phrase in their post caption. “Who’s cutting onions?” the caption read.

The post also featured Steve Russell’s genuine sentiments. In the post, Russell’s mom, 94, called a radio show to congratulate her sports commentator son on retiring. “Hi Steven, this is your 94-year-old mother calling you Patty and I are here in Middletown listening to your show and want to congratulate you on your retirement. And I want you to know that we love you. And we know that whatever you do, you will be successful. I love you, Steven.”
Is it not an emotional moment? Well! After receiving a touching message from his mom, Russell immediately exhibited his gratitude. “Thank you, Mom. Thanks, Mom.” he asserted with teary eyes.
At this wholesome moment, UFJ school alum Erin was not the only one who expressed her sentiments, but many fans wished, ‘A Happy retirement’ to the media icon. “Soo wholesome! Congrats on a hard-earned retirement, Steve!” one fan commented.
Such an instance even demonstrates fans’ love for sports media personalities. According to WCJB reports, ex- Sports Director for WUFT-TV appeared last during Sports Scene’s show on Tuesday. This marked the final show that he hosted before his retirement.
Allegedly, after nearly 27 years of his career as the College sports director, he will take a break. However, despite his retirement, Russell will be still hosting his Russell report weekly with TV20, 1 local radio station in Gainesville. His retirement announcement coincided with Erin Andrews’ Fox co-worker, Terry Bradshaw, clearing the air around his retirement rumors.
Terry Bradshaw shuts many mouths speculating about his retirement
Bradshaw recently has been targeted by his fans for his several on-air blunders. After he weirdly claimed that former NFL player, Rob Gronkowski- a full-time panelist as a fill-in guest for Jimmy Johnson on Fox NFL Sunday, fans called for Bradshaw to retire from his on-air duties.
Not only this, but earlier he also upset many fans for unexpectedly mixing up team and player names. The television sports analyst also left a sour taste in fans’ mouths with a controversial ‘Carolinas’ accent impression after Hurricane Helene and called for the Browns to ‘put down’ Deshaun Watson.

After above mentioned blunders, fans called for Bradshaw to retire from his position soon. After his retirement speculations, Bradshaw, 76, came on air to declare his instance. Despite the calls for him to put up his suit, he claimed that he was not going anywhere, anytime soon.
During Dale Brisby’s Rodeo Time podcast, the four-time Super Bowl winner cleared his retirement stance. “You know what, man? I don’t know when that time comes when then they say to me, you know ‘happy trails’. Yeah, man, you want to say that’s never going to happen,” he asserted.

Apart from this, he further remarked that you know when it’s time and it is sad. But that moment hasn’t arrived yet. He intends to continue with his current position.
