The Steelers‘ QB competition between Justin Fields and Russell Wilson is heating up as the team prepares to face the Lions on Saturday. But, it seems to be a shocker for the fans as an NFL insider has already confirmed the name of QB1 for the Steelers. And it looks like Justin’s hopes to start as Pittsburgh’s QB were stuck with a heavy blow.
On the 22nd August episode of Dan Patrick Show, Gerry Dulac said that Russell Wilson will start as the Steelers’ signal caller, “Russell Wilson was brought in for a reason, and that was to be their starting quarterback.” But Dulac didn’t stop here as he opined, “And the intention all along was their belief was Russell Wilson gives them a better opportunity, obviously than Kenny Pickett, to may be win a playoff game.” Well, Russell Wilson comes with 9 playoff wins in his career. And that’s not all, as Dulac seemed to have shattered Fields’ dreams of playing as the starting QB for his team. “I don’t think Justin Fields has done anything to change their mind. There’s really no debate here on who will start for them unless Russell Wilson gets hurt,” said Gerry Dulac.

Moreover, he also said that Justin Fields has only won ’10 games’ with the Bears, attended ‘12 practices‘ in the Steelers’ training camp, and had ‘8 possessions in the preseason‘, which seemed to be not enough to prove himself as a deserving QB1 for Pittsburgh. But it looks like Dulac said more about why Justin Fields got the opportunity to play with the Steelers, “Justin Fields wouldn’t be here if Kenny Pickett didn’t have a hissy fit, and they traded him.” Well, Kenny Pickett’s time with the Steelers came to an end in March when the team announced that they traded him to the Philadelphia Eagles for a set of draft picks. But it seems like Pickett didn’t have any hard feelings about leaving his former home. “It just felt like it was time from things that transpired. Wanted to get a chance to go somewhere else to grow my career,” said Pickett earlier this year.
So, how is Kenny Pickett doing with his new team?

After the Eagles 14-13 win on New England, HC Nick Sirianni seemed to be quiet happy with the performance of Pickett, “You saw where they went in today. Kenny is No. 2, and Tanner is our No. 3, and I am really happy they’re both on the roster.” Moreover, in 67 offensive snaps through the preseason weeks, Kenny has completed 25 of 35 passes, with one more than 10 yards pass (11.89 air yards vs. Baltimore).

Is Justin Fields really the future of the NFL, or is he just another overhyped QB?

But he failed to make connections of 15-plus air yards pass. However, he looked good on paper as he completed 11 out of 13 passes for 67 yards in his second preseason game. And it looks like that makes him the backup QB to Jalen Hurts, per HC Nick Sirianni.
With a fresh start to the preseason, will Pickett be able to do better with the Eagles in the coming season? Let’s see.
