The long-dreaded Eagles fans’ heartbreak is here. After 13 loyal seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles, Jason Kelce has announced that he will hang his cleats for good. In today’s press conference, the center broke down before even getting a word in. In the 40-minute speech, an emotional Kelce spoke about his career, his bond with his family, and his utter respect for Philadelphia and their football passion.
After rumors started swelling up last season when Kelce had expressed his desire to retire after a loss against Tampa Bay, fans were waiting with bated breath for the center’s decision. The official announcement is finally here. Visibly overwhelmed, Kelce said his final goodbyes to the Eagles and fans.

As Kelce struggled with holding his emotions before the speech, the love he harbored for the sport was evident. “Not a good start,” Kelce managed to get out before his last speech as the Eagles’ center. Kelce thanked his coach, Nick Sirianni, and reminisced about making the playoffs and winning the Super Bowl with him.
He also joked about the coach’s attempts at motivating him to continue playing. “I won’t forget Nick Sirianni sending me kegs of beer to convince me to keep playing these last few years. He knows the key to my heart.” Talking about his last year with Philadelphia, the center said that even though it was a dismal season, he still cherishes playing under Sirianni.
“Although last season truly sucked, I wouldn’t trade any of my time with you or those teams for the world. Everything happens for a reason. And I have truly enjoyed my time with you, coach.” Jason Kelce was engulfed in emotions as he read on from his prepared speech. In the audience sat his brother, Travis, parents Ed and Donna, and his wife Kylie, all of whom were tearing up, listening to the center’s speech.

Talking about his roots, the football player shared how Travis was the closest person to him growing up and shared their passion for football. “We have a small family. No cousins, one aunty, one uncle. It was really my brother and I, our whole lives. We did almost everything together, competed, fought, cried, and learned from each other. We invented games and imagined ourselves as star players of that time,” Kelce expressed. “we won countless Super Bowls in our minds before ever leaving the house.”
As the team’s goodbyes and many thanks to Kelce’s contribution in the 13 long years wrap up, it will soon be time to fill the gaping Kelce-shaped hole in the Eagles’ offense.

The solution to Jason Kelce’s absence might be right at home! Eagles’ youngster, Cam Jurgens, emerges as a promising prospect. The 2022 draft pick hasn’t had much of a chance to play so far, but showed potential when he started as the right guard in 2023. Jurgens might become the one to take the retired center’s load on his shoulders. In fact, he was vouched for by Kelce himself, who was a part of his scouting process.
Kelce had acknowledged the possibility of Jurgens replacing him in due time, back in 2022. “I think a big part of them asking my opinion is really just them saying, ‘hey, we’re going to draft your replacement here. Are you OK with this?”
But there is also the option of a new addition to the team through draft or trade. The top 2024 Draft O-line prospects are Oregon’s Jackson Powers-Johnson and Sedrick Van Pran. The Oregon Duck’s starting center stands as the top choice with his robust physique and agility. On the other hand, Pran comes with starting experience from the Georgia Bulldogs.

Finally, there’s always the option of trade. With their cap space of $27.4 million, the Eagles would have to open up some extra space if they want to acquire a new center of Kelce’s caliber.
