The Super Bowl LXI between the Chiefs and the Eagles has somehow divided the NFL fans into two groups. On one side, the Chiefdom is pretty excited to witness the history as Patrick Mahomes and Co. are eyeing a three-peat. And the other? Well, they are kinda exhausted and frustrated because, of course, they want someone else to win the Super Bowl.
The Super Bowl hype has reached a whole new level, and with the Chiefs aiming for a historic three-peat, it’s safe to say tensions are running high. Fans are split—some are backing Mahomes and the Chiefs, while others are just hoping to see the Chiefs fall short. And just when you thought the drama couldn’t get any more intense, here comes a wild twist—Big Charlie’s, the iconic Eagles bar in Philly, is closing its doors on Super Bowl Sunday. Yep, you heard that right!
On Sunday, Big Charlie’s Saloon announced the news on their official ‘X’ handle. “Big Charlie’s will be closed on Super Bowl Sunday, 2/9/25. We looked into several options, but we feel closing is our best option. We like to thank our patrons for a great season. Go Chiefs!” Well! Well!! If you’re thinking that the Chiefs vs. Eagles showdown in the Super Bowl was déjà vu, then think again.

Because the iconic Chiefs’ bar in Philly dropped the final bomb. The reason? See, it’s not the first time that the bar’s owner, Paul Staico, came to this tough decision. Oh yeah, you heard that correctly! The last time the Chiefs and Eagles went head-to-head for the Super Bowl, Staico straight-up shut down Charlie’s Saloon. But what’s the actual reason?
See, for big events like the Super Bowl, Paul Staico sets up television screens, grills, and seating outside. But the thing is, the way people are rooting for the Chiefs to win the third straight title, the reservations may be higher than the indoor capacity, at least that’s what happened the last time. On top of that, the Eagles’ fanbase has a different history when it comes to supporting their team.
Now, Staico plans to host a private event and is all set to invite only a small group of patrons, similar to their approach during the previous Super Bowl between the Chiefs and the Eagles. That, folks, is what we call a double dose of déjà vu. Let’s see what the fans have to say about this decision.
What’s your perspective on:
Does closing Big Charlie's on Super Bowl Sunday show Philly fans' intensity or just poor sportsmanship?

Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs’ fans took a jab at the Eagles’ fans
Chiefs vs. Eagles is a replay of the Super Bowl LVII. We’ve heard this statement a million times, right? But what about the fans? It’s also a replay of both teams’ fanbase. And whenever we talk about the fanbase, the Eagles’ fans always make headlines and this season is no exception. But here’s the kicker: right after the Charlies’ saloon made the announcement, the NFL fans didn’t hold back and called out to the Philly fans.
One fan casually asked, “Is this because it would be unsafe to have a Superbowl Party for KC in Philly?” Can you blame them? I mean, everyone’s aware of the aggressive nature of the Eagles’ fans. One of the reasons why Paul Staico took the safer route. Because, of course, no one knows the intensity of the fans better than him. But that’s not all.
One of the fans chimed in and wrote, “Understandable, and unfortunately a sign of just how trashy the Phili Eagles fanbase really is. No Eagles bar would ever have to close in Kansas City.” Ouch! It’s not great for Philly’s image when a beloved bar has to shut down for safety concerns. Then there’s the comment, “Makes Philly look pretty bad and their fans even worse.” Looks like someone’s not holding their back and are frustrated with the Eagles’ fanbase.

But there’s always a silver lining amidst the chaos, right? One fan took another route and stated, “Sorry you will be closed for the Superbowl. That sucks for Kc fans.” Totally understandable. Honestly, they’re not wrong. The Chiefs fans in Philly have to deal with the tough decision when their team is gunning for history.
And finally, the blunt one, “Wow, says a lot about Philly fans.” Totally understandable. It just shows how frustrating this rivalry has become for those on the receiving end of that Philly energy. But at the end of the day, it’s about Safety, and Paul Staico knows it very well. It sounds a bit disappointing for the Chiefdom, but with tensions running high and fan emotions even higher, it seems a right call.
