Patrick Mahomes has come forward and addressed the issues that cost the Chiefs a rare loss against the Raiders. The embarrassing loss 20-14 against AFC West rivals is hard to swallow. The Black Army raided Kansas City and registered a comprehensive win after six straight losses. The Chiefs are still a step away from the playoffs and this loss has raised doubts about the team’s performance going forward.

You can’t predict anything as we are in the Wild West. The Super Bowl champs are struggling to make consecutive wins. Losing one more before the playoffs has hit the team’s momentum. QB Patrick Mahomes is not used to being in such a precarious position. The team’s offensive capabilities are in question as Mahomes has been intercepted 5 times in just the last four games. After the loss, Mahomes pointed out the main reasons.

Patrick Mahomes opens up about what went wrong with his team

In the post-match presser, Patrick Mahomes looked visibly down as he started mentioning the reasons in detail. He left no time to acknowledge the offensive struggles and appreciated the team’s defense. He came to the point when the Raiders secured two defensive TDs during the second quarter, “Just two mistakes that gave them two touchdowns.” He enlightened the situation in detail and took the blame as he was also intercepted once, “You can’t do that especially when defense is playing like they’re playing so I just got to better in that sense and not making those mistakes”.

Mahomes gave the insights moving forward, “Try to find a way to play the game and the best way to win.” A reporter brought back the question on the back-to-back mistakes that made the Raiders secure two game-changing TDs, “Is it hard to find a line in that kind of situation that does not press too much when a mistake happens or back-to-back mistakes happen.”

Mahomes took his time and explained, “I think as the competitors you want to make a play happen but at the same time you got to know the flow of the game.” He rightly pointed out the o-line mistakes as per his experience, he was quick to mention the TDs given to the Raiders near the end zone.

“Those two mistakes at the moment kind of put us in the hole and we weren’t able to climb out of it,” he added. Mahomes gave the way forward, “I’m just trying to find a way of eliminating those.” The Chiefs haven’t made the playoffs despite a rollicking start to the season. This loss has shaken up the AFC West division.

AFC West has become unpredictable

The Chiefs couldn’t clinch the AFC West title. Mahomes was visibly uncomfortable during the game as the Chiefs displayed a terrible offensive line. The Raiders have gained crucial momentum as the endgame approaches. If they win the next two, they will reportedly have a 66% chance of making it to the playoffs. Not just this, they have now toppled the Broncos and are sitting comfortably at the second spot in the AFC West.
