Home/NFL

Patrick Mahomes had a brutal night on the big stage. How brutal are we talking? The unforgettable combination of a sack, sack, pick 6, and getting face-palmed all in one night. OUCH! We’d say the Birds’ defense was up to some good. And they were simply unstoppable, locking down every drop-back and turning pressure into points. To put it clearly, DC Vic Fangio orchestrated a masterclass.

For the Chiefs, who are too used to relying on their #15 for answers, it was an unknown territory. Indeed, they were clueless. Pat was cluelessly running into the back line. That’s when Jalen Carter said: ‘Snap back to reality.’ Eagles’ #98 DT was taking no prisoners when he hit Patrick’s helmet, face-first. Imagine getting hit with the arm of a guy over 300lbs, coming in at full speed. Can’t imagine. And maybe, don’t wanna imagine.

But guess what? NFL decided against penalizing it. Not just that, they fined Carter’s brother-in-arms, Milton Williams. Why, you’d ask. Oh, well, he simply showed ‘unsportsmanlike conduct’ for dunking over the crossbar as a part of the crucial strip-sack routine. But the league said, ‘Nope, can’t do that’. And boom! slapped the $14,069 check.

One fan’s humor was on point as he replied to Pelissero’s tweet pointing towards Williams’s celebration: “How can they show that on live TV?” But you’d have to wonder what cuts it for fine. I mean, this much inconsistency, at this level, does not portray a good enough picture. Yet, it truly does give an insight as to who the players are up at arms against. Meanwhile, it also gives the Chiefs Kingdom to run their mouth while asking all the so-called KC haters“Is Pat still a protected QB in your eyes?”

However, Philly and Nick Sirianni’s troubles are far from over as Jalyx Hunt received a $5,690 fine as well. Another celly, another strict rule without any humane touch to it ruining the vibe. The good thing? That’s a chump change for the SB-winning player. Bad thing? How is a bo-and-arrow gesture an unsportsmanlike conduct? That’s what has left the internet confused.

So, that leaves with the same old same old: ‘What cuts it for a fineable hit?’

What’s your perspective on:

Did the Eagles' defense expose Mahomes, or was it just an off night for the Chiefs' star?

Have an interesting take?

Patrick Mahomes escaped an injury scare

Early in the first quarter, Patrick Mahomes hit his head hard on the turf as he got tripped up. No concussion check. No trip to the blue tent. Just Mahomes getting up and playing through it. But did that hit impact the rest of his game?

However, social media sure thought so.

Neuroscientist Chris Nowinski, founder of the Concussion Legacy Foundation, chimed in, saying Mahomes didn’t show any signs of a head injury. But head injuries can be tricky, and when a quarterback plays as uncharacteristically bad as Mahomes did—two interceptions, six sacks—it’s easy to wonder if something was off. Was it the Eagles defense? Or was Mahomes feeling the effects of that hit?

Of course, there was a flag thrown after a big hit. But it wasn’t for roughing the passer—it was for Milton Williams dunking the ball over the goalpost after a strip-sack. Meanwhile, Jalen Carter’s facemask hit on Mahomes? Yeah, trust the Chiefsdom to make noise against the league for literally ignoring that hit. Now, would it have changed the game? Probably not. But it sure added fuel to the fire.

So, in the end, Patrick Mahomes walked away without a concussion and without a Lombardi. No three-peat. No miracle comeback. Just an offseason full of questions and a Super Bowl loss that’ll sting for a while (and the bruises will be the reminder of the lost battle).
