Eagles ditching green for black and white—Is this the worst uniform decision in NFL history?

The Philadelphia Eagles and the Green Bay Packers are preparing to face each other for the first time on Brazilian soil. It would mark the first-ever NFL game that will be played in South America. Although this anticipated clash comes with its share of excitement, fans are equally disappointed by the recent developments surrounding the game.

Both teams continue to move ahead while facing multiple restrictions on their head. As one of the fans pointed out, “Confused as to why we’re playing in Brazil? I’m all for expansion, but you’re putting everyone at risk playing there. Dumb decision.” This reaction came after Ari Meirov tweeted that the Eagles would be wearing white jerseys, black pants and a black helmet against the Packers while ditching their traditional green colors.

However, this is not the first time that the Eagles will be playing in their white jerseys and black pants. Back in 2021, the Eagles used this combination for the first time to record a 30-13 victory over the Denver Broncos. From then, the Eagles have managed to record three wins out of the four they played with this pair of jerseys.

But there are slight changes in the outfit the Eagles used on their home turf. Previously, they used to wear Midnight Green helmets, but during their week 1 clash, they would be wearing black helmets that debuted back in 2022. Soon after a single season on the helm, the black fits were replaced by 90s-era Kelly Green uniforms.

As for their opponents, the Packers would be in their green jerseys with yellow stripes and Brazil threads. Well, you could be wondering why there are so many problems surrounding the game that would have been the next big leap for the NFL. Corinthians Arena is the place where both franchises would be locking horns while it serves as the home of the Brazilian soccer team Corinthians.

The color green is supposedly forbidden as it represents their arch nemesis Palmeiras’ jersey color, green. But the Packers are prepared to walk onto the field wearing their green jerseys. Therefore, it would be interesting to see how the Corinthians Arena would react when one of the teams has green in their jerseys.

Although the players and analysts were excited for the first time when the NFL dropped the news of the Eagles and Packers taking place in Brazil. Things might not have remained the same as the reactions have continued to change for the worse while many questioned the NFL’s decision to host the game in Sau Paolo.

One of the fans reacted to the Eagles playing in their white jerseys as the dumbest thing ever. “Playing in Brazil continues to be the dumbest thing ever.” While a few others seemingly questioned the league for dropping the idea of hosting matches in other countries, “How about we don’t have NFL games in 3rd world countries? Ever thought of that workaround.”

Others came up with questions like, “Whose idea was it to schedule 2 green teams in a stadium where green is banned? LMAO.” Well, this could be a valid point as both the teams’ primary color is green. Therefore, it is creating bigger issues for the whole of the NFL and the teams subjected to play in those conditions.

As fans’ reactions continued to flood the internet, one of them pointed out, “This is how I learned international games start Week. Kill it all with fire. USA’s sport.” It seems there is no end to criticism after the Philadelphia Eagles had to change their jersey colors in order to play on foreign soil. “If you need to alter the team jersey this much just to be able to play there. Maybe you shouldn’t play in Brazil,” another fan added.

Many are questioning the decision behind the match taking place in Brazil amid all the restrictions. But one thing is for sure: it would be an exciting contest where each team would be looking to etch their name in NFL history books to record the first win on South American soil.
