If you win, you rise higher.” It seems for Patrick Mahomes, this quote is not applicable! The Kansas City Chiefs have won two consecutive Super Bowls, and they give most of the credit to their star quarterback, Mahomes. And why shouldn’t they?

Mahomes is the only quarterback of the Arrowhead Army who led his team to the Super Bowl win for the first time after 1969. And that was indeed a huge drought which was ended by one and only Mahomes. Despite leading the team to three Super Bowls and completely creating a dynasty for the franchise, the QB still lagged behind three other NFL players this time, and his teammate is unhappy with it.

That was not expected at all!

As the NFL broadcasted their Top 100 list on Friday night, the 28-year-old QB’s rank slipped from that of no. 1 in 2023 to rank 4 this year. And as obvious, this new rank of Mahomes, made his team furious, with linebacker Drue Tranquill even taking the matter up on X. On August 2, 2024, Tranquill tweeted, “@NFL has jokes.

He also shared the banner wherein the league mentioned Mahomes’ previous rank and current rank. Despite Mahomes’ standout performance-throwing for 4,183 yards and 27 touchdowns, and securing a second straight Super Bowl win-he’s ranked fourth. This ranking of the reigning champ has led many to scratch their heads.

Even reporters and analysts like Field Yates called it “Complete nonsense” and Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk said, “I don’t care who’s making the list. If Patrick Mahomes isn’t No. 1, the list is (poop emoji).”

Mahomes, who is ranked at no. 4, preceded by Tyreek Hill (rank 1), Lamar Jackson (rank 2), and Christian McCaffrey (rank 3). And many are wondering why Mahomes is replaced by his former teammate, Hill.

Tyreek Hill tops the chart for the first time!

Tyreek Hill snagging the top spot as the NFL’s best player this season might seem surprising, especially with Patrick Mahomes’ incredible run with the Chiefs. But this year, the league’s players decided Hill deserves the crown. With an astounding 1,799 receiving yards and 13 touchdowns last season, Hill led the league in both categories. Additionally, the Dolphins, with Hill’s help, made the playoffs but eventually fell short against the Chiefs.

Nevertheless, although they didn’t win the playoffs, their team’s WR has definitely won over their opponent’s quarterback. Therefore, shortly after the list came out, Hill took to X to thank the league’s players who voted him as no. 1. He said, “God Thank you” with a red heart. But soon he realized that many would be slamming him for replacing Mahomes, therefore, he added another tweet. Hill further said, “My comments and DMs about to be on fire now” with a laughing emoji. On the other hand, Mahomes was enjoying Morgan Wallen’s concert when this list came out.

This ranking is given to Hill for his phenomenal season in 2023, but it’s definitely hard to ignore the impact Mahomes had in leading his team to yet another championship. Hence, as we see in reality, these rankings have nothing to do with their upcoming season, and as NFL Network’s Cameron Wolfe highlighted, “Patrick Mahomes may end up the greatest player to ever play football when he’s done. Yet every year, he gets unsolicited motivation in disrespect. First, the Raiders’ Mahomes Kermit puppets. Now, players rank him No.4 in #NFLTop100 of league he has dominated.”

Therefore, this time too, the no. 4 rank might play as a motivator for the Chiefs quarterback. But till now, a big congratulations to Tyreek Hill.
