We’re going to move on!” It’s been 450 days since Bill Belichick and the New England Patriots went their separate ways. After 24 legendary seasons in Foxborough, his legacy still looms large. Even though he’s no longer leading the team, a part of him will always be tied to New England. But what happened on Friday? Yeah… nobody saw that coming – especially not this offseason.

Remember during the draft night last year, what Bill Belichick said about Drake Maye? Let’s take you through that – “He hasn’t played very much. He really doesn’t have a lot of experience. He’s going to need some work in reading defenses, reading coverages. He’s kind of quick to bail out of the pocket….going to need to hang in there a little bit longer and find those receivers.” The legendary coach thought that Maye could make all the throws. However, the thing is – he needs to be consistent. Perhaps, that consistency is what the young quarterback wants to learn from the new UNC coach.

On Friday, a photo from the North Carolina practice field went viral. And to everyone’s surprise, it featured Bill Belichick and New England’s QB, Drake Maye. To the ones who are unaware, Maye grew up in North Carolina. He has played three years with the Tar Heels, before his NFL debut. So yeah, it was only a matter of time before he crossed paths with Bill Belichick. And that moment? It finally happened. This meet-up was caught on camera during a spring practice, just months after Belichick left the Patriots.

Before the 2025 season begins with new head coach, Mike Vrabel, it seems Drake Maye wants to get some training from the legendary coach himself. Bill Belichick, on the other hand, has started fresh in college. And somehow, if we look from the analytical lens, both are chasing something bigger – new beginnings, second chances, and maybe even a chance at something legendary.

All, in all, it’s definitely exciting news for their fans, however, for some, it might be a risky move!

Fans think Bill Belichick can ruin Drake Maye’s career?

Bill Belichick led his team to six Super Bowl wins – The most by any coach in the NFL. His legacy with Tom Brady spread like wildfire. However, his last season with the team, where the Patriots saw just 4 wins, definitely has left many in frustration. That’s the reason some fans commented, “Get Drake away from that BUM,” or “Thankfully, BB is not here coaching DM.” With the poor loss and no great quarterback-making, except Tom Brady, Belichick is now facing the brunt of anguish from the NFL fans.

What’s your perspective on:

Is Bill Belichick the mentor Drake Maye needs, or a risk to his budding career?

Have an interesting take?

If you remember, Tom Brady recently shared his weekly newsletter. In that, he surprisingly blamed coach Bill Belichick as the reason behind his parting ways with the franchise. The note read, “The reality was, after twenty years together, a natural tension had developed between where Coach Belichick and I were headed in our careers, and where the Patriots were moving as a franchise. It was the kind of tension that could only be resolved by some kind of split or one of us reassessing our priorities.” This unrevealed tension caused chaos in the bond between Brady and Belichick.

Ultimately, the NFL legendary quarterback had to leave the Patriots after 20 seasons. And that’s also one of the reasons why some fans are not just taking Bill Belichick anymore. Someone annoyingly said, “He should be careful or Bill might ruin him the way he did their last several QBs since Brady.” Others too chimed in giving a warning to Drake Maye, who is just starting his career in the league. They said, “Jesus Christ don’t let him talk to Drake!!!!” or “Stop it Drake maye will be another Mitch Trubisky,” indicating Trubisky’s switch as a backup QB in different teams.

Well, the NFL fans are surely not in the mood to see the duo working together. It seems the cut, given by Bill Belichick, is deep for them!
