The Patriots are a team that seems to be doing everything right, yet trust in them remains low. While the hiring of Mike Vrabel is certainly inspiring, the lingering question is whether that will suffice. There’s no denying Vrabel is an excellent coach and is supported by a talented roster. However, the question that many are asking is: can they return the Patriots to their former glory? Well, for that to happen, a significant factor will be Drake Maye.
Well then, it seems like good news for Vrabel, as Maye is eager to be “coached hard,” by him. Carlos A. Lopez recently shared Maye’s insights on X and what he said about Vrabel. He shared, “He’s been a head coach somewhere else. I think that kinda maybe spices it up more for us, kinda getting outside the Patriot tree technically… Being somewhere else, and knowing what it’s like to have success, being in the playoffs for a different city, different organization will be awesome.”

A big thing for the Patriots is that they don’t seem to be moving on from the Brady-Belichick dynasty. The team undoubtedly saw much success when the pair was there, but it’s time to move on. And Maye does believe Vrabel can be the person to help the Pats do just that. Vrabel has worked with Belichick and Brady at the Pats, but he also has that experience of coaching a different team on his own and that will certainly be very helpful in taking the Patriots into the future.
Talking more about Vrabel, Maye said, “Coach Vrabel, he called me on the phone and he’s been great. Looking forward to kinda get to know him. I think he will bring some toughness and kinda coach us hard and we need to be coached. Y’know, even great players that we have and veteran guys, you wanna be coached hard. I don’t know everything. Especially me trying to make a jump to my second year — you want to be coached hard.”

Drake Maye’s enthusiasm for working under Mike Vrabel will certainly excite the Pats fans. This also signals a promising future for the Patriots as they transition into a new era. It remains to be seen if Vrabel and Maye achieve the same success as Brady-Belichick, but the excitement shown by Maye certainly looks promising.
Does Bill Belichick still have a part to play with the Patriots?
23 years as HC of an NFL team is no joke and Belichick’s time at the Pats certainly wasn’t. The legendary coach attained much success with the Pats and hence it’s unsurprising that even after 2 years of his leaving, his influence is still felt at the Foxborough. Recently, Maye was asked about the same and whether they still felt Belichick and the youngster responded quickly with “For Sure.”

“I think the ‘Patriots Way,’ the practicing in whatever weather, lifting hard and lifting hard during the week, and in-season [or] out of season it doesn’t matter we’re running sprints, running the hills, I think that’s still kind of the ‘Patriot Way.’ The hard work works. I think that is what his staple was, and what he left on the organization. I think a lot of coaches—especially since we’ve kinda stayed inside the Patriots tree, as you call it, coaching-wise—have kind of embraced that,” he said.
Drake Maye’s excitement for working under Mike Vrabel and his acknowledgment of Bill Belichick’s lasting influence highlights the Patriots’ balance between honoring their past and shaping their future. As New England moves forward with a fresh vision, the challenge will be turning potential into success. Will this new era bring the Patriots back to dominance? Share your thoughts!
