Something’s definitely cooking in New England, and it’s not just Mike Vrabel’s roster moves. The Patriots are in a full-on rebuild, but could a fresh new look be part of the plan? With teams bringing back old-school uniforms left and right, it wouldn’t be shocking if the Pats joined the wave. And thanks to their rookie QB, we might’ve just gotten a sneak peek at what’s coming next.
Drake Maye may have just let the cat out of the bag. While talking about the team’s future, he casually dropped, “I think they’re maybe coming out with a — maybe is kinda — the fans are wanting some blue [throwbacks]. Those would be sweet.” The way he fumbled through it made it sound like he realized mid-sentence that he wasn’t supposed to say anything. If this is actually happening, Pats fans could be in for a major throwback upgrade.
Drake Maye says the #Patriots are “maybe” coming out with a blue throwback uniform 👀

It sounded like he leaked it by mistake 😅

The Patriots have mostly rocked red throwbacks in the past, especially their classic “Pat Patriot” look. But blue? That’s a whole new ballgame. The team switched to navy as their main color in 1993 and never really looked back. While they’ve had different shades of blue in their modern jerseys, a true throwback in that color would be something fresh.
Other teams have brought back blue throwbacks and absolutely nailed it. The Chargers‘ powder blues? Straight-up legendary. The Bills‘ royal blues from the ’90s? Fire. Just like Drake Maye said, if the Patriots are about to pull a similar move. They could be adding some serious swag to their new era under Vrabel.

Mike Vrabel is cleaning house in New England
Mike Vrabel isn’t here to play nice—he’s here to build his Patriots. With the team stepping into a new era, Vrabel is making it clear that if you don’t fit the vision, you’re OUT. And his latest move? Just another reminder that he’s calling the shots now.
The Patriots just cut veteran linebacker Sione Takitaki, even though he was under contract for 2025 after signing a two-year, $6.6 million deal this past offseason. This wasn’t about money—New England has plenty of cap space. Instead, it’s a sign that Vrabel didn’t see Takitaki as a part of his squad. What makes it even more interesting? Takitaki was a handpicked signing by Eliot Wolf, the team’s de facto GM, who has been a big fan of his since scouting him in college. But under Vrabel? That connection didn’t mean much.

And this isn’t just a one-off move. Takitaki is now the fifth free agent from last year’s class to be cut, joining K.J. Osborn, Nick Leverett, Armon Watts, and Chukwuma Okorafor. Even Jacoby Brissett could be next. Of the nine guys Wolf signed last offseason, only Antonio Gibson, Austin Hooper, and Jaylinn Hawkins seem safe—for now. Vrabel is making it clear that no one’s spot is guaranteed.
And he’s just getting started. With free agency around the corner, don’t be shocked if even more big names get the boot. Vrabel is building this team his way, and if you don’t fit the plan? You’re packing your bags.
